Pete S Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 Just wondered if anyone had seen it - it was recorded live New Years Eve 2005 (I think) and the remaining Funk Brothers are joined by some guest vocalists. Well what a terrible disappointment, they played like a wedding/cabaret band and were unrecogniseable as far as I was concerned, I turned it off after 25 minutes (I got it off a dodgy download site, looks like it was a pay tv thing)
Guest johnm Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 Pete, I enjoyed the Standing in the shadows of Motown DVD featuring them along with Joan Osborne.... hope that's not the one your talking about.

Dave Moore Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 As the PR for the film kicked in (and after), the guys were in demand. They played Disneyworld at least twice to my knowledge. The most cringeworthy (from a soulfan's perspective) appearance imo though, occured when they were booked for the opening of the US Golf Open. Seeing all the WAGS nonchalantly tapping their feet and mouthing the incorrect words was painful. Still, who'd begrudge the guys a few nights in the centre spotlight eh? And a few of America's corporate dollars? Enough people sure made enough off them eh?

I lent my SITSOM DVD to someone a year or two back. Can't bloody remember who I lent it to and it's never been returned. Is it still obtainable? KTF. Drew.

I saw TFB a couple of days earlier ( December 28th ) at BB King's in New York City , where they announced that they were going to be filmed on NYE ........ Their performance at BBK's , despite being very good , was pedestrian in places , and as you state , akin to a cabaret act ..... Malc Burton

They absolutely tore the house down. Fantastic night and I'll always have great memories of seeing some of the original funk brothers. Kev
