Hi Ian,

Can I ask about Bobby Taylor & Vancouvers? Find My Way Back

Was this issued on vinyl?

many thanks,

P

One of my personal favourites.

I wish it had been but no, sadly, it was only on the "You Didn't Say A Word" album, plus the giveaway album with the original SWONS VHS set, and now recently on "Reaching For The Very Best".

I kinda liked the original version, except for the electronic start + a bit mid way, but it sounds a bit aged if you know what I mean?

That's actually pretty good, first time i've heard that before, what's the title of the track, was it on a 45?

Simon

The video isn't available anymore when you click on the link but if you search this site for Dr Buzzards Original Savannah Band, I posted a couple of video clips last year along with info on 'I'll Play the Fool', 'Cherchez La Femme' 'Sunshower' and a whole host of other genius tracks off this RCA album. Ordered it in for the record shop I was working in during the 7Ts and the reaction when we played it in the shop was amazing - instant sales :D 'I'll play the Fool' and 'Cherchez La Femme' both came out on 45 - Cory Daye's voice still makes me go wobbly even now..... https://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=hnE7xlBxqHQ - it's happening right now - and a bit more when Cory unleashes herself on this clip from the Dinah Shore Show which sounds live https://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=IxPqsk20duo&...feature=related  Even better - here's Coati Mundi's own site on YouTube https://uk.youtube.com/profile?user=MundiWorld

Assume you only mean't UK releases. Whilst in Rotterdam for the Man Utd final in 1991, I purchased several of your Detroit Motorsound CD's, and on volume 9 is Find My Way Back which to me was the best track on this CD, closely followed by Johhny Bristol-Look Into The Eyes Of A Fool and Ronnie Mcneir-Ten Times A Day.

The sleeve notes say you released 25 CD's in this series and I dare say a good number of these tracks have since been reworked.

Got the new DVD but not allowed it until Xmas Day.

There was a set of 25 CDs released by Masters Music in Holland in 1990. 16 tracks on each, which made a total of 400 songs altogether. They're quite hard to find now.

Motorcity was about 850 songs in total, and to this day a lot have never been released.

The artwork was done to all fifty volumes of The Best Of Motorcity, to be released in America by Hot Records, between 1990 and 1996, which would have been 800 songs, but they only ever pressed the first twenty, and although volumes 21 to 50 were all compiled and had artwork and catalogue numbers, they never did make it, and the company has been bust for ten years now.

Thanks for the reply Ian. Amazon opened their MP3 download section the other day and there must be hundreds of your productions available for download, from the 70's, the Motorcity recordings and your High Energy ones right through to the NS2008 album. I am sure you will be aware of this, but for Soul Source members interested in your productions over the years, there are plenty of tracks to sample and buy, far in excess of itunes methinks.

I did a deal many years ago with One Media productions, when downloading was in its infancy, giving them exclusive rights to sell all my old stuff on iTunes.

Therefore it's all legitimate, but none of us could have foreseen the switch from CDs you could hold in your hand to digital media, and if only I knew back then what I know now.

Was this for download sales in perpetuity?

Ouch! sad.gif

I'm a big fan of Steve Mancha's 'It's All Over The Grapevine', is there any chance you could level up the soul reissue label namechecks and record someone on say 'Hopping Down In Kent'? biggrin.gif

I am awaiting delivery of the much acclaimed Ty Karim album to add to my large collection of CD's and some Vinyl on the excellent and very much valued Kent label. How's That Ady?

Is that for real Ady, not a wind-up ??

If so, which version ??

The original seven inch on Parlophone from 1986, or the much MUCH better version from the "Don't Wait Around" CD from 2001 ????

every time I'm looking for soul vinyl at car boots, what do I find.... No not Frankie & Johnnie on British but Ian Levine compilations

Well I've been blamed for many things, but this is a first.

I dont blame you, this is probably the only way in the coming years that new-comers looking for 'Northern Soul' will get the chance to find and hear it. You are in my eyes the only living survivor to truly understand without knowing what and how 'Northern Soul' works!

Morning Jock.

Hey! How come when you talk I can always understand you, but when you write on here it just looks like you've assembled a load of random words then jumbled 'em up a bit more before posting? :(

Godz

Why would it be a wind-up it's a good record. The Parlophone one, I didn't know it had been re-done.

That's keeping me off the streets and my market value's been plummetting lately, so thanks. I was hoping for a free Kent jingle from Ian and his artists really!

The better version is on the current "Reaching For The Very Best" triple CD set. Didn't I give it to you at the Ion Bar party ???

Sorry Ian, the word 'to' should of been 'and' and 'without' shoud be 'with' appolgies for my poor grammer.

I am confused on your opinion on Sam, I always thought he was a for-runner for the modern side? Arther Fenn as his protg, and my good friend Steve Woomble as his protg. Trouble is just Trouble, I actually like James, I think he stands for well needed injection of pure balls out soul.

I am confused on your opinion on Sam

This is my personal opinion.

I absolutely can't stand him, and I never could for the last thirty five years, and find him to be a hypocrite and the most judgmental musical bigot I have ever had the misfortune to meet in my entire forty year history of being involved with this music.

If Mike Ritson wants to let him write a column, well it's a free country.

Unfortunately, I fear for the sanity of his readers.

Nah, attempt at humour.

I was quoting an infamous mangler of the English language from music papers in the 70s. I think Tony Smith remembers him, but unless Danny Baker joins this forum it looks like I've gone down a blind alley. Will remember to stick to the obvious if future. Sorry for interrupting the deadly serious stuff :D

It's ok, Godz, I got it, but many wont have a clue what it's about.

Was it a NME thing? Supposedly Danny Baker?

Don't worry Godz, I remember Where Is Beatle Band, I think it was a constant thread in Record Mirrors letters pages though and it was the early 80's.
