Guest soulmaguk Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 (edited) Just been thinking about ian levine's thread, it sort of went as quickly as it came. I do hope somebody cut & pasted all the material that was available in his Q & A. If you had your wits about you, you could have it published into print and sold it. Just a thought, i wouldn't be so unscrupulous, but i bet some would. Edited November 23, 2008 by soulmaguk
Tomangoes Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 The life and times of Ian Levine? Maybe a film also. Fame at last for all that effort. After all, it is the strange world of Northern Soul. Ed

Epic Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 Could be called "Hit & Run" - 'cos that's what he did - the best sales thread on Soul Source ever!!!
Jim Elliott Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 .............altho' Alan Turner from Emmerdale has also expressed a preference. thats enough now with apologies Jim
Epic Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 Ian would have to play himself - however everybody else would be played by second rate actors with just a passing resemblance to the original people.
Guest Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 Could be called "Hit & Run" - 'cos that's what he did - the best sales thread on Soul Source ever!!! I didn't hit and run anywhere. I was gutted when my thread got closed down, and begged for it to be reopened, but it wasn't. Anyway Epic, I'm glad to see you're still being your usual magnanimous self. You're so kind and sweet.

Guest bazrico Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 (edited) I think the word you're looking for is veresimillitude i think the word Verisimilitude (only one l)lol in its literary context is defined as the fact or quality of being verisimilar, the appearance of being true or real; ... Nice to see you back Edited November 23, 2008 by bazrico
Epic Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 I think the word you're looking for is veresimillitude Try fitting that word into one of your songs - now that would be impressive!!!!!! Whilst on the subject of Ronnie Mcneir - a question for you - who discovered "Sitting In My Class" - I know CC played it at The Mecca but was it one of your discoveries? I think it is one of the best records ever played.
Epic Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 I think the word you're looking for is veresimillitude Better still - it would make a great name for a female vocalist or a C/U name Vera Simillitude

Guest Posted November 24, 2008 Posted November 24, 2008 Let us not forget SHEILA BLIGE ............ Malc Burton Oh I like that one. Never seen that before. Is she Mary J's sister ???
Tomangoes Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 So Mr Levine, as long as your name is in a topic title, you will join in? Im sure that will inspire some new topics. Ed
Tomangoes Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 Yes but who would they get to play HIS part, and who would want to?? Any nominations? Rick, we all know you are a DJ (Summer in the parks and all that) you can drop it from your title I'm not sure Mr Levine would need anybody else in the Film, after all he must have enough material from being a young un bringing those tunes back from the states to running his own labels to fill a two hour life and times tale. Ed

Malc Burton I think the Chuck Wood's identity was finally discovered/confirmed in NJ on SouTrip USA in '07. If memory serves me correctly Bobby Jay (?) knew him and told Kev Roberts who it was. I got this info after the evnt so wasn't able to clarify it but I'm sure Kev will have the info to hand.

That's how we found out it was supposed to be J.R. Bailey The problem is it doesn't sound at all like him. I used to have the only original Mala acetate of his original version of "Tears Nothing But Tears" as well.

I liken you two to no less than Oscar Wilde and James Whistler, although you are slightly more camp and I may have imbibed one too many Cinzanos! PMSL - thank you : The likening of myself to JW is a compliment , as there are several similarities between the man and his character and myself ........ James Abbott McNeill Whistler ( July 14, 1834 - July 17, 1903 ) was an American-born , British - based artist . Averse to sentimentality and moral allusion in painting , he was a leading proponent of the credo " art for art's sake ". His famous signature for his paintings was in the shape of a stylized butterfly possessing a long stinger for a tail . The symbol was apt , for it combined both aspects of his personality " his art was characterized by a subtle delicacy , while his public persona was combative . Finding a parallel between painting and music , Whistler titled many of his paintings " arrangements ", Harmonies " , and " nocturnes ", emphasizing the primacy of tonal harmony . His most famous painting is the iconic '' Whistler's Mother' ', the revered and oft parodied portrait of motherhood . A witty dandy and a shameless self - promoter , Whistler influenced the art world and the broader culture of his time with his artistic theories and his friendships with leading artists and writers . In respect of facial similarities , I an more akin these days to Whistler's Mother than James I am afraid ....... As to your likening Ian to OW , I will await his comments ....... But still failed in the end. I thought we'd found Dena Barnes. Tim Ashibende had a picture with her and had the address, but there was no trace of her, as if she had never existed. And it is still my dream to film the Charades singing "Key To My Happiness" - the one that got away.

The Duke Browner connection is also now completely severed due to his distaste for secular music/life nowadays. When I spoke to Harry Balk though it transpired that Mr Browner and Ms Barnes did at least 4 tracks together. Now unless I've missed it, I only know of two. Be nice to hear the other two eh? Have you any personal contact with her? I would love to try and get her on stage somewhere. Any help you could give would be appreciated. I've been unsuccessful twice in Philly in trying to convince people it would be worth while. Edited December 2, 2008 by Dave Moore
