Bo Diddley Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 Was pm'img Neil(Allen) earlier today, there are so mant tales to be told, from those special nights, well it was weekends most times with the likes of the oldies, clifton hall, the britt, the bear, bedford etc...etc...on fridays, then off to Kev 'n; Shazz's or Lornas, if we could get a lift. What a joy to be in the company of the craziest, reckless bunch of wonderful people you could ever wish to meet. talk about living to the maxx, and then more piled in on top, yet through all that we came out with so many life long mates, and great memories. If you told the tales to an outsider, they would scoff and say nobody would get up to those things, but we did weekly Dave from Anglesey stopped me a few months ago, must have been 20 plus years but it was as if it had been 8am the Sunday before, and that applies to so many of us,,,thats so special for me as around here no fucker will speak to me, only jokin really the kids spoke only last year LOL We dont need to meet in a mall, to be together "the memories still remain in our hearts" Hello Harpo I've posted 3 old photo's in the gallery All the best Bod
Harry Crosby Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 This was taken in october 1980, to be honest i think this may have been an oldies night though

Zed1 Posted December 25, 2008 Posted December 25, 2008 Well said! Seconded.... I still attend venues most weeks with great people I first met at Wigan 30+ years ago - the Casino was responsible for a whole new generation of us discovering the Joys of the music that is Northern Soul - yes it had it problems - yes it wasn't perfect (as we are constantly reminded of on here ) But I, and I know many like me who wouldn't have missed it for the world. This section of the forum is called 'All our Yesterdays' so what WTF is wrong with us celebrating one of best venues ever, on here - without being told to "move on"? .... If certain people could only get past their preconcieved ideas that Station Rd was just about Frank Wilson and Casino fooking Classics, they might discover some of the best music ever played on the Northern scene - as ably demonstrated on this thread.. Happy Christmas.

Thats why i know so many of the York lads as well. My best m8s at that time were Mike Hussey and Andy Newbould from Hull. I went to Seasons and then Rudies after it reopened. I also know many other people that you know ie Tony Colby. Ronny Marsh etc etc etc. Rick

Happy Christmas. here here!!! if you never went to wigan then you wouldnt understand the bond we all had with eachother, it was the best days of my life to be honest, its hard to discribe how everyone was and still is so friendly, ive had people come up to me and take the mick! assuming it was a druggies den, im not saying you couldnt obtain drugs there as we all know that went!!( saying that you can obtain drugs in the most respected venues nowadays!!) but the vibe was fantastic and everyone was like one big happy family that just danced the night away, went to the baths in the morning to chill till it was time to walk down to the train station for the train home. Ive never felt the same vibe since wigan finished it kinda died with it.
Guest bazabod_downunder Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 To add to the surrealness (as you know Una) of it all, the dance floor that you were dancing on was bought by Andy Nevin, now both he & Fiona are here in Australia...see you & the Big Fella in January.....also as Pete said it's more than likely that we brushed shoulders at Wigan (or other events), look at me with Kath, it's very likely that we were in the same room at the same time on many occasions, now all those years later we're together. KTF Baz Well I'm sure I must have met you there as we usually hung around with Dave Nowell and Dave Lancaster. Sharkey remembered me when I met him in QLD, Scouse Pete in Perth knows lots of people I knew and I remembered the guy he hung around with (Bernie from Formsby) so I must have met him and don't recall. As for Pete Morgan Jones you can actually see us next to one another on the This England offcuts. And here we all are at the other side of the world together on the dance floor again. So as you say it is all a bit surreal! See you in January?

KTF Baz They've got one of the floorboards here, Rob and I had a dance on it! It took Andrea and I about a month to realise that we did know each other at Wigan. Kath and I were living in the same suburb for all these years and then after meeting at a Northern night we were all up at the Gold Coast 3weeks later... and the rest is history! Looks like Andrea will be coming up January too.
Guest Scarborosoul Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 No Rick--i did really OCT 74 til all of the last ones T.C. Tony, I thought I had done a Rain and gone OUT OF MY MIND or maybe just old age. Thinking back wasnt the pic of you and Pete with the records taken at Station Rd? Rick

Guest skorpiano Posted January 3, 2009 Posted January 3, 2009 Thanks to Mark Freeman for encouraging me to dig out my Casino tapes and re-living my wonderful memories of the latter years of the Casino. Although I use to go to the Oldies nighters and occasionally go in M's, it was the Saturday nights , main dance floor that always did it for me - oh if we could turn back time? Russ, Richard, Soul Sam, Gary Rushbrooke, Pat Brady, Keith Minshull, Brian Rae and Dave Evison etc. - Respect to you all for such wonderful memories! On some nights there was only a few hundred people in so am hoping that this is a great opportunity to re-live a moment in time. A few examples are: Neil Allen, Chris Plant, Tim Ashibende, Dave Thorley, Atlas, Geoff Oakes, Dave Shaw, Waggsy, Trusser, Harpo, The twins, Rob Marriott, Vernon, Martin Maylor, Blondie, Ricky Brown, Pete French, Fletch, Tracey, Pip and the rest of the Stroud contingent. The Gloucester crowd and so many more from Worcester, Redditch, Crewe, Manchester, Scotland etc. Also the people that I didn't meet at the Casino but then met afterwards and found out they were also there, Guy, Keb, Butch, Gilly etc. Also to the wonderful soulies that we no longer see around Dave Alcock, Pete Lawson, Tommo, Mudd and others R.I.P. Anyway if you were there between 1979-1981 please leave a comment. Mark (Gloucester) - Don't look at the picture as I looked quite different then, like more hair, and definitely less weight Did I hear, Disco Connection-Isaac Hayes, 80/81 or was it a dream?

Pip from Stroud got his hand cut and bag stolen. This at some point ended in a punch-up and vague memories of Norman Wint (Gloucester) and a few others returning the compliment. Oldies night I think.
