I'm trying to put together a radio show...got lots of non-Motown stuff covered, but trying to jog my memory to "hear" that baritone sax in my head on some Motown singles...certainly "i'm on the outside looking in," "love is like an itching," and "something about you"...but i know there are dozens of 'em with even MORE prominent bari that aren't springing immediately to mind. please help!

Sid Barnes told me the sax break in Four Tops -I Can't Help Myself was Mike Terry.

Every baritone sax solo on ALL Motown records is Mike Terry. Same for ALL other Detroit recordings plus many sixties Philly records (Moses Smith, Rotations, Volcanos, Cliff Nobles, Larry Clinton etc) plus Chicago (Gene Chandler, Valentinos et al). Some Motown highlights are 'Suspicion', 'Road runner' 'Love is like an itching in my heart' 'True fine boy', 'Take me in your arms' - the list is endless!

Don't know about the Bernard Williams but am highly suspicious it was him - he certainly did a lot of sessions for Jimmy Bishop and company in Philly. He's on the others for sure. Irene and the Scotts was produced by Bob Babbitt one of the Motown bass payers who also wrote 'Believe it or not' Nabay
