Daved Posted April 22, 2005 Posted April 22, 2005 There have been many fantastic song writers and the list could be very long. Some are so great that you know it's going to be a goodie, no matter who's singing the song! My faves are: 1. Smokey Robinson 2. Ashford & Simpson 3. Betty Wright What say you?

Garethx Posted April 22, 2005 Posted April 22, 2005 I agree with Pete: Lennon & McCartney were incredible songwriters on a scale that no-one will ever match. They changed the face of popular music in a way that no-one ever will again.
Daved Posted April 22, 2005 Author Posted April 22, 2005 guess if you want to bring non soul you could have Neil Sedaka, Pete Townshend and Gaudio & Crewe (although they did write soul songs too). I don't know how I forgot Phillip Mitchell either. Stevie Wonder is another contender.

SOUL, also up there must be Al Johnson....btw a producers threads a wicked idea!!!! link Agree with the abive, although must veer back to Ashford & Simpson (1) because they are among my favorite artists and (2) sheer quantity of great songs in their name. Slightly off topic but has anyone ever seen album with A&S singing their Motown compositions, believe it was part of a series of demos done for Motown 25, seen it it in DT box once but missed it, he cant remember it and noone else seems to know about it. Tell me I didnt imagine it?? Cheers Jock Edited April 26, 2005 by jocko
Simsy Posted April 26, 2005 Posted April 26, 2005 H.D.H faves, but Barrett Strong & Norman Whitfield deserve a mention I think
