Devotees would fill huge dance halls in towns such as Wigan, Blackpool, Cleethorpes and Stoke on Trent for "all-nighters" - eight hours of going wild to vintage American soul music. It spawned its own frenetic dances, fashions not seen before or since, and heralded the rave culture of the 1980s...........

Guest Jimmy Scriv Posted April 26, 2005 Posted April 26, 2005 I saw play at Blackpool on Saturday, one of the best things was to hear the music played loud on a good sound system. Credit to the actors who worked hard. Well worth seeing.

Well worth seeing. link Glad you enjoyed it Jimmy Seeing the cast at the 'after show party' at the Boardwalk last Saturday made it obvious they actually enjoyed the music. Because they were new to the scene so to speak they danced to all sorts of wigan stuff, covering all eras of the venue, with no preconcieved ideas. A bit like most of us when we first got into the music I guess.
Guest Brian J Posted April 29, 2005 Posted April 29, 2005 I went to Lowton Civic last night to watch it..... only a freakin' month to early! I did get to see my old mate Russ and some other soulies there though, who were havin' a meetin' about the play itself. I don't think they'll let me live it down. KTF Brian J
