Guest Soultown andy Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 Gazo from bolton great dancer great spinner, like all good dancers makes it look effortless.
Guest janey Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 Posted the story in another thread some time ago. Too long winded - will tell u all Sat Ian/Jon but the bottom line is there were 3 of us put thru to The Grand heat semi finals of GB World disco dancing champs after coming 1st 2nd and 3rd at St Ives circa early 80's. Me and Keb got knocked out 1st round but the guy from the Army who used to run up walls lasted an extra round before being overwhelmed by the John Travolta wannabees. Regarding spinning - god I love trying but the lack of grey plastic soled, purple canvas upper shoes and the addition of an extra 4 stone to heave round in a circle just makes my glory days at The Fleet just a distant but fond memory. A totally un-biased opinion here....my cousin Debbie Harriman and her fella Joey....regulars at Casino....Joey also went to Catacombs and Wolverhampton Locarno (don't know if any of you Wolverhampton/ Tipton lot remember him?? Now they could spin and dance!!!! Top to watch!!!! Janey
Guest ang b Posted March 28, 2006 Posted March 28, 2006 no one could spin like chris from middleton ive seen him take out four pints and a full table of beer at parr hall and he spun that fast that centrifugal force used to suck the tonge rite out of his head
Billywhizz Posted March 28, 2006 Posted March 28, 2006 Frank Booper still goes to THe Wheel...didn't realise Gethro was still about!!! I was told at the last 100 club Gethro 's been back since xmas, last time I spoke to Gethro was in the car park at the casino sitting in a mini he put his left knee out really bad. Billy
Russ Vickers Posted March 29, 2006 Posted March 29, 2006 (edited) There are some people who can Dance & Spin, Some who do nothing other than trying to perfect the perfect spin.... Pickle would spend the whole night Spining & manage 3 or 4 Perfect ones out of 10 Spins....Pete Wickam would dance allnight & suddenly amaze people with a perfect spin.....Gethro & Keb are 2 of the King's on the floor they can both do everthing & the only 2 I know who can spin in Both Directions.....Morris Nixon who runs Portabello Market in London & used to own the Motown Bar in Portabello Road, one week Sue & I where in there Good music being played as usual & Morris done the most perfect spin.....15 min later He done the same thing wobelled of course & knocked over a few of his Buisness Buddies...... Keep @ It Jon Buck Photo is of Pickle @ Leighton Buzzard Allnighter.... Used to be a great dancer/spinner at Wigan called 'Sparky' (I think) used to dance front right of stage, late 70's he was wearing 'Jazz Funk' type clothes, but danced Northern. In my younger day's, I was runner up in quite a few dance comps, none of the 'big' nighters, but Derby Kings Hall in the late 70's came third once. Even won a comp early nineties at a Yate revival !!!. These day's rather more rotund, but still dance most of the night & usually there for the last toon. More about enthusiasm & passion to express myself to the music these day's tho' I'm afraid. After Wigan we alway's went to the Stafford or Locarno Dayers, at Wigan we would dance 'normally' but we treated the dayers as a place to practice our spins.................would just kinda two step on the edge of the floor & then spin in the appropriate places, practicing for the nighter the next week end. With regard to timing, there is definitly a right place to do tricks & spins within a tune..............alway's in time with the beat & usually tricks on the break & spin out...................still some good dancers around now, but find it frustrating when other wise good dancers do there stuff in completely the wrong places & as stated above there is a right & a wrong place. Dave Thorley Posted December 16, 2006 Posted December 16, 2006 (edited) Have to agree with those already commenting on Gethro, just stunning to watch. But back in the mid-70's you would have whole dance floors full of spinners, drop kicks, back drops, frount drops. Gloucester had some good spinners, Steve Smith and Martin Fellows. But when Steve got it wrong look out, could take out a whole table next to the dance floor. But the true artists of the dance floor would have be Rob & Dennis Lee, they could do just about anything and most spectacular would be when they danced side by side. It just took a little nod from one of them, and they would be off in the air in unison, kick, back drop, frount drop and finish with a spin. Edited December 16, 2006 by Dave Thorley
Zed1 Posted December 16, 2006 Posted December 16, 2006 remember Les from runcorn ,i swear his feet used to leave the ground If you mean 'Libby' then he is still on the scene, see him at quite a few of our local Venue's!.
Sanquine Posted December 17, 2006 Posted December 17, 2006 What about Vernon,Bradfords best ever. Agreed.... and yes Shane your right Paul fantastic all round dancer n spinner.. Karen
Guest Ollie Lailey Posted December 18, 2006 Posted December 18, 2006 As a recent recurit i dont feel as im in a place where i can slag of other dancers (as i dont feel that im very "good") But when im at an allnighter or a night i really dont give a fucking monkeys. I can do a good spin, buts thats not really the point, im just dancing(john). What ive noticed is there is a lot of people who know the moves but they are just going through the fucking motions. its dancing by numbers. they look good, but is that really what its about? some people have the moves and feel the records and those are the people who i respect . So many others know the moves but could be dancing to the fucking birdie song.
Guest WPaulVanDyk Posted December 21, 2006 Posted December 21, 2006 Tall Paul makes me think of the well known DJ in dance music (which most on here might ask who). but back to this question who can be the best as spinning does not make you the best it makes you sound clever as you can do the spin when some can't Ever see Sam Evans dance locally in Peterborough i swear she dances too fast then to my shock she is djing the next minute but still she is great and her set made me smile
