Simon T Posted April 21, 2005 Posted April 21, 2005 Mike Is this for 'information' or to "bait" us? At least 12 have been booted or reissued. Banquet, still, at least the first syllable rhymes with 'wank'

pikeys dog Posted April 21, 2005 Posted April 21, 2005 This CD confirms to me that 'name' DJs can get away with spoon feeding people any old shite and they lap it up. What a fcuking dogs dinner! WOOF!
soul45s Posted April 21, 2005 Posted April 21, 2005 Stop the banquet - I need a Rennie. Hammy link And I need a Sick bucket........
Steve G Posted April 22, 2005 Posted April 22, 2005 This CD confirms to me that 'name' DJs can get away with spoon feeding people any old shite and they lap it up. What a fcuking dogs dinner! WOOF! link Really is from the sublime to the ridiculous - some great stuff on this CD, some absolute "bilge" - as a banquet probably "Steak and Chips", followed by "Bananas and custard" (yuk)
Sweeney Posted April 22, 2005 Posted April 22, 2005 What is the point of this release? It's shameless recycling of the same old rubbish. Most (if not all) the material has been used on previous compilations by the SAME company. I'm staggered by the paucity of imagination such a product displays. Are there that few Northern Soul records? I'm surprised that a big name DJ would allow his name to be used to front such tired old doggerel. It frustrates me to think that this will probably sell pretty well. The Strange World of Northern Soul indeed!
Pete S Posted April 22, 2005 Posted April 22, 2005 OK now look at the track listing, what's wrong with that, I think it's a pretty good cd on the whole BUT not exactly value for money...remember 30 trackers?? 1. I'm Waiting - Bush, Bill 2. Love Slave - Antellects 3. Just Like You Did Me - Vernee, Yvonne 4. I Have A Girl - Magnetics 6. You've Been Away - Rubin 7. If This Is Love - Spencer, Eddie 9. You Left Me - Admirations 10. Get It Off Of My Conscience - Lovelites 11. Anything I Can Do - Collins, Will 13. She'll Come Running Back - Britt, Mel 14. Bygones - Bull 15. Sittin' In My Class - McNeir, Ronnie 16. My Baby Came From Out Of Nowhere - Hendley, Johnny 17. What More Do You Want - Toones, Gene 19. Room Full Of Tears - Gilliam, Johnny 20. When You Lose The One You Love - Smith, Buddy
Headsy Posted April 22, 2005 Posted April 22, 2005 why bring this CD out ???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
Ged Parker Posted April 22, 2005 Posted April 22, 2005 Is this a 'legit' issue CD? There are some tracks on here that I have heard Ginger play and some I have not. So are they meant to reflect his playlist or his likes? He is on record as disliking Joey Delorenzo for example but I've never heard him play Buddy Smith so I guess he plays it infrequently yet Eddie Spencer is in every one of his sets I've heard for a while now (I prefer the Precisions any way). I'm not sure what he is trying to achieve in putting this out but I am sure he has done himself few favours. If 'big name' DJs can be said to be a 'Brand' this CD creates a mixed message and so weakens his 'Brand position'. This might sound like marketing tosh but just think does anyone on this forum doubt the 'Brand Position' of Butch? And could any one see him putting out a CD with such a mixture on? Ginger is a great bloke (for a Man United fan) but this CD is an error in judgement IMO.
Mike Posted April 22, 2005 Author Posted April 22, 2005 Is this a 'legit' issue CD? .... link yep seems it is a goldmine one, interesting remarks no sign of any blurb that goes with release just front cover and listing
grant Posted April 23, 2005 Posted April 23, 2005 will sell a lot of copies though with the unlearned & boost his dj pay packet even more
Little-stevie Posted April 27, 2005 Posted April 27, 2005 You lot ask whats the point in bringing this out..Its not really for you lot is it..Its for mass market and to make money...There are gonna be more and more commercial ventures like this so get used to it...I've seen plenty worse than this...I wish all would have sleeve notes and a real thought about design but that would take more time and time is money... Poor design and no sleeve notes, that should be like a graded record..vg- and sold at £5 not top dollar...
Ady Croasdell Posted April 29, 2005 Posted April 29, 2005 Kent's putting Bill Bush out, licensed from the proper people of course, on Northern Soul's Classiest rareties Vol 2. I don't get how so many people seem to be against it, it seems like a very good soul dance record to me! But then again, I'm not a fan of 'Pyramid'.

Pete S Posted April 29, 2005 Posted April 29, 2005 Isn't Satin - Your Loves Got Me on the cd? link No, he quoted the version I did with all the naff tracks cut out
Guest Posted April 29, 2005 Posted April 29, 2005 One of those opinion divider records- I think its pretty poor on all levels. Is it rare then? That could be the only thing that explains any interest.
