Weingarden Posted November 16, 2008 Posted November 16, 2008 Ren-Cen should come off and be added to 70s list. and Renaissance should be added to that list as well.
Md Records Posted November 16, 2008 Posted November 16, 2008 These are better details of the labels in question, for verification, from Adey's collection:- ASP 1083 Ron Coden - She Doesn't Love Me Anymore ASP 1084 Lena Mone - Hold Me Close Dale C 101 Gip Roberts - Ode To Life D.S.S.I. 1-70 Jimmie Delphs - Do You Know What I Mean Heavy Hank 123 Edd Henry - You Made Your Bed Baby Heavy Hank 128 Edd Henry - Two Heads Are Better Than One Heavy Hank 1776 Edd Henry - I Got You Apart from these details I know F*** all about these, interesting though? Pressco Brighter day (vernell parker) Ricare (pat patterson) Wood City (peoples choice 1968) Highway to Hits Auston's (jack montgomery) San (ali mapo) WJLS (king wilson) Music Now (neil reed/emanuel lasky) NPC (emanuel lasky) La Val Mid-way Earwax (might be 70's?) Hot (joan duvall & patty charles) Renaissance (early earl van dyke 45) needs to be kept on but probably a separate label from the 70's Renaissance label. also remove 70's labels Strate o'clock Edited November 16, 2008 by carl_p

Guest carl_p Posted November 16, 2008 Posted November 16, 2008 I think Sparton should be Spartan. Arnold (big red and comancheros)(carrie related detroit address) Rip Cor (little sammy, oscar bishop) more to come when i get time. i do think ASP belongs lena mone is soul i think. The Dale C might be a toss up i'll have to find it but i didn't think it was soul.

Chalky Posted November 16, 2008 Posted November 16, 2008 Now is Pontiac Detroit? Some of you seem to think so but it is after all 30 odd miles away so not exactly a suburb. I've removed the Flint ones, 70 miles away.

I've removed the Flint ones, 70 miles away. jer jim han probably had little to do with detroit that i know of but actually carla karen, moira etc are ann arbor which is about as far as pontiac. they are often considered detroit labels though. i think some of the saginaw/flint ones had some detroit connections. but then also grand rapids doesn't belong? maybe keep ann arbor/pontiac and remove flint and beyond??

Weingarden Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 (edited) this is great! thanks, everyone, especially chalky. some notes: you've got Chex and Saxy twice. should Gemni be Gemini? (el count executives label? but 70s...) it should be Genebro, not Genbro. is Not forgetting a label or a stray note that got in? are Star Maker and Starmaker both right? is Vip just a repetition of V.I.P.? La Val was based very far west, on the other end of the state, no? Big Mac (not Big Mack) was in saginaw, no? should Billesse be on there? there are a few scattered about that aren't capitalized... No problems. Checking 400 plus some are bound to slip through or get omitted. VIP and Vip are probably the same, I'll remove one, same fro Starmaker. I'll remove the doubles and double check the others you mention.
Chalky Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 Can't see a listing for Big Mac in R&B Indies. I'll remove it from the list unless someone can verify that it's Detroit?
Chalky Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 should Billesse be on there? according to R&B Indies its a late 60s early 70's label, PO Box 161, Detroit, MI. Distributed by Westbound.

Weingarden Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 tayster was a new york label in the sixties, but at some point circa 1969 or 1970 seems to have been based in detroit, for three specific releases that i know of: the chico and buddy 45 and the damn sam the miracle man 45 and lp....
