Hi,

I've got two purple Gordy badge designs of this: one with the artist and title in large type and one with the type in a smaller font. Is there a way to tell a proper 1st issue or were they just pressed differently at the time?

Any info would be greatly received!

Thanks!

JM

Hi...

mate, heres what I know, for what its worth..........

Nowhere to Run - Martha & the Vandellas

came out on Gordy only once

Gordy 7039A on 2nd May 1965

can only assume as it came out only once that both copies are first issue but pressed at different places, hence different labels, I could be wrong but thats all I know about this one. wink.gif

Westy

p.s. check out the Isley bros. version.

The large type is the first run of most Gordy badge designs when more where needed the smaller type was uesed.

I think i'm right in saying this but i've been told diffrent by a one or two US motown dealers but most say as above.

Thanks for your help on this.

I've noticed the same thing with both the Tamla globe designs & the Motown blue map designs.....often the fonts sizes and types are different. Have the same thing with Isleys 'This Old Heart' & Four Tops 'Something About You'. With the Isleys the smaller font design also has 'Tamla Records - Detriot' ect across the globes and the other one doesn't...confusing!

Switching all my British Motown over to US issue so trying to get nice originals.....

Hi

I have been unavoidably absent from Soul Source due to a recent bereavement (Sister) & I have only just noticed this.

If you Click on this record you will see the List we are compiling for the Gordy Label at Hitsville Soul Club.

Gordy_Back.gif

I still have "Nowhere To Run" to add as a Scan, but it will appear shortly DEMO & Stock Copy.

Many different Designs & Font/Size are turning up from Various Pressing Plants, they are Original in their own right.

Most pressed at the time of Original Release but at different pressing plants, with the odd re-issue here and there.

I am hoping during this process a clear picture will develop as each Scan is Uploaded, as time passes with this Ongoing project.

We are tackling a few Labels Including

This is the copy that I`ve got, slightly different again.

About the same record, has anyone heard the version of this that is featured in the film 'The Warriors'? I think it's martha Reeves but it is definately a different version.

The Dynamic Superiors I think. Good version. On the Motown label (UK at least).

Dave I don't think the version by the Dynamic Superiors is the one used on the 'Warriors' film. If I remember it's a male vocal uptempo discofied version with lots of fuzz guitar and the version in the film is a female sultry mellow version.. I'll get Sam to check the credits. See u in Burnley next week.

Just played it and your right. The Warriors track is Arnold McCuller's version according to the film soundtrack credits. They should have used The Dynamic Superiors, it's better!

The Sultry voice was the female DJ who played the song.
