I bought his first copy on 2/12/08 for $1136. he listed it as "1960'S SOUL RECORD FOUR TRACKS TOMMY L.JONES MANDINGO" i don't think he had a clue about records but was able to copy the information from elsewhere. Thinking he might have a couple copies i asked if he had more copies. I got spooked when he told me he had 100 copies. I have to give him credit he was honest about it. i'm sure he'd consider an offer on the balance if anyone is interested.

I got a second chance offer after you outbid me Carl  - he told me he had a 25 box with one missing so 24.

Not very truthful huh

sounds like greed got the best of him. he must have regretted telling me he had 100 copies.

From what I've heard, the guy found a few hundred of them(500-600 if not more), split the lot with a guy in England, and it's fixing to be the next Clara Hardy.

i doubt this is true, where is the british seller selling them? why would he want to wait until it was cheap? i believe the 100 story.

anyways, I bought one at $900 when it just came out, I didn't know how many there really were but didn't want to gamble on losing it if there just were a few. if there's 100 it won't drop much lower and will go back up quickly. if there's more it will be the next clara hardy.

How many Danny Moores were found?

That was a decent 'three figure' record before they turned up, and now its a solid 70 quidder.

I wouldn't pay more than £200 for a Four Tracks at the minute, any more than that is too much of a gamble I.M.O.

I know people who spent £1000+ on one in past. Don't think they would find this happy reading.

Suppose we will have to wait and see how many this guy does have after all. 100 sounds a bit high to me. IMO

I also refused a Clara Hardy and a Dream Team at the £400 mark, and look what they are fetching now...

100 copies is a lot to hit the market in one go - it's got to dramatically affect the price, surely?

Well, why not ? I once paid 1200 UKP for my copy when it still was a very rare 45, don`t regret buying it for the nice time the record gave to me before the haul was opened. You never know what will be find next and what not, its all in the gamble thats called collecting I suppose  ?

What's Clara Hardy fetching now? I know the price dropped with a bump from the £1000 plus it was selling but I know of copies sold for around £400 even after the quantity find was known about, personally wouldn't give no more than £75/£100 for it.

100 copies will have an affect for a while but once they've gone and demand is again greater than supply the price will rise again.

Last Clara Hardy I saw was £150....

Dream Team dropped as low as £100,

Not actively looking for either, so they could be even less now without me knowing.

DreamTeam was £50 or £75 weren't they on Shifty's list, didn't he buy what was left?

I met him at the Austin record fair where he had one on display. He also told me he had originally found a box of 24.

He bought the rest thats true and sold them at 100 UKP then at something significantly less...has he still copies ? Don`t think so as they did not appear on his list for a long time.

True. Just take a look at Betty Lloyd...even fetching (again) more these days then before they were found early nineties .

Hi Marc,

I think one of the main reasons for the price resurgence in 45s like Betty Lloyd etc is the fact that many people who returned to the UK scene hadn't heard these records first time round. Once they wanted to start DJing then it was scramble to find something 'different' (at least to their ears).
