Seriously though that would be a great idea, I quite enjoyed it when Ian Dewhirst took us back in time a few months back. Can't see Sam strolling on stage though but Mr Manship is on here though, obviously so is Ady . Having said that you'd have to have some time on yer hands to get into a 50 page stroll down memory lane, be great if they could but its a bit of an ask - but if you don't ask you don't get

Guest Byrney Posted November 9, 2008 Posted November 9, 2008 I'm always envious of people who can remember where they were when and who was there etc... I'm always surprised at the recollections on here. I can barely remember anything from the late 70s, early 80s, even records played, people i met (except close friends) only places and vagues dates etc... Crap long term memory. Wish i'd kept a diary. Same here Matt, to the point of it's now getting a tad embarrassing. Amount of people saying can you remember when we did this, went there, did that and I have little recollection of it - not a good thing. Mexborough Soultown allnighters an example I can't remember a great deal about them yet I went to all the nighters. Yet there's some, who to be honest didn't hold back on the naughties but can remember everything
Ian Dewhirst Posted November 9, 2008 Posted November 9, 2008 Yet there's some, who to be honest didn't hold back on the naughties but can remember everything LOL, I wonder who that could be? Good job my long-term memory is pretty infallible compared to the short-term! Ian D

Disillusionment & Mid-Life Crisis Music biz implodes. Downloading. An industry destroyed. 31. How To Become A Best-Selling Author It's a long tractectory but that's kind of got it down in a simplistic form. Doubtless there'll be thousands of other things to add once I actually start writing in earnest. That's the hard bit by the way! That's why Soul Source is good. I've pieced together a nice chunk of the L.A. story and quite a few record-collecting stories from writing some Soul Source threads. So all positive. 6 pages a day for three months should do it....... Book should be ready for late next year touch wood, if I survive that long LOL...... Ian D Have you sold the film rights yet , Ian ? Malc Burton
Guest Una Scot-Oz Posted November 10, 2008 Posted November 10, 2008 LOL, I wonder who that could be? Good job my long-term memory is pretty infallible compared to the short-term! Ian D Good start though Ian. I'm glad to see the car crashes have faded out! Oddly enough I can relate to that!
Ian Dewhirst Posted November 10, 2008 Posted November 10, 2008 Have you sold the film rights yet , Ian ? Malc Burton If only. I think I'll have to wait 'til I've finished the bugger. With the way things are going just lately, it looks like that'll be my pension LOL..... Ian D
Ian Dewhirst Posted November 10, 2008 Posted November 10, 2008 Good start though Ian. I'm glad to see the car crashes have faded out! Oddly enough I can relate to that! Oh there's some great car crashes in there Una! I totalled two cars coming back from Cleethorpes alone! I needed some action sequences in there - it can't all be Sex, Drugs and Northern Soul can it.........? Ian D
Tomangoes Posted November 10, 2008 Author Posted November 10, 2008 Do any soul - sources actually know any of these stalwarts (not wannabees) to be able to ask them to give up a few day to to discuss the 'life and times.etc' Closest Ive ever got was requesting records when they have been dj-ing etc. There must be some groupies amongst us!! Ed

soulsalmon Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 Obviously not to your taste then Dave........ And Johnny did share an anecdote or two on the Greatest Record Finds Of All Time thread from earlier this year..... Season's goodwill to you too mate! Ian D You should have a seperate chapter on crashing cars, you were quite good at it as i recall
Guest familytree Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 (edited) Well, I'm actually in the process of piecing something together - it's been an ongong project for a number of years now and I've got a number of chapters together but reality/everyday life/financing my lifestyle keeps getting in the way LOL! Sounds intriguing! and the path it takes covers all the genres I went through so be a very interesting read... get on with it! there is little money in music, a perfect pension package! x Edited November 13, 2008 by familytree
Guest bazrico Posted November 14, 2008 Posted November 14, 2008 Any chance of getting the likes of Soul Sam, Richard Searling, John Manship etc to start a 'life and times thread' just like IL did a few weeks ago. If nothing else the knowledge forthcoming is fantastic. do think that the soul scene is all about these guys lets talk about the soulies who have been around since the early sixties

Guest bazrico Posted November 14, 2008 Posted November 14, 2008 Malc Burton As you say you have been on the soul scene since 1965 and i stand corrected not the northen scene how ever for an old chap like me or even you to put pen to paper with regard the soul scene of of our youth it would take a brave person to start. So can we leave the past in the past but respect those soulies who were around before wigan. I am not a anti wigan far from that its just everyone seems to think the soul scene started at wigan

I am not a anti wigan far from that its just everyone seems to think the soul scene started at wigan I was not having a " go " at you dear chap : as you progress and become an old campaigner on SS , you will soon come to know that I may reply TIC to some posts , hence the NSS / 1966 and the Cleo's Derby repostes ....... In total agreement with the / your highlighted statement : memories from before the Holy Shrine days , are in a lot of cases as you will know , personal to those individuals , and will only be shared if , and when , asked to share them , and we should give respect to those of a certain age and standing in the soul community : if it were not for those people , we would not have a club / rare / modern / northern soul scene ......... If nothing else the knowledge forthcoming is fantastic. do think that the soul scene is all about these guys lets talk about the soulies who have been around since the early sixties The topic was Northern Soul Stalwarts, so the original soul/r&b fans on that point were not highlited. If Pete Stringfellow and his ilk can do some historical recollection, that would also be welcome. Actually anybody with a tale to tell is always welcome to share it. Ed
