Guest Posted April 20, 2005 Posted April 20, 2005 It would be interesting to know if there were some hidden gems to be found outside the US/Anglo sphere during the 60's and 70s? That actually sounded as if they came from the Motown/Stax etc factories, i.e. not a Japanese belting it out in Japanese...but rather a toon that surprised you, i.e. "what-the-f*ck-he's-JAPANESE??!? Aussies, Kiwis etc. In short, oddities. Ever came across one of those tracks? Chris

Chris Don't know about hidden, but worth a mention from the Ozzy camp: Doug Parkinson - I'll Be Around Marcia Hines - You Gotta Let Go Japanese not really noted for their singing prowess, however they can knock up a tune and so flourish in the jazz / dance arena... Hiroshima have been going since the 70's, nice jazz fusion... Sam

Mattbolton Posted April 21, 2005 Posted April 21, 2005 Old Skool Soul? Not from UK/US. I'd have thought someone would have mentioned Doris by now. Swedish white girl out of the early 70's. Did a killer album called 'Did You Give The World Some Love Today?' Awesome record. Includes 'Beatmaker' and 'Don't' which became massive on the Mod scene. Also, the CD has unreleased stuff, one of which is a version of 'Mama Didn't Lie' which puts Jan Bradley to shame.

Read up on her now on some Swedish forum, and the consensus feeling is that the CD is a top-notch. Apparently she was a hairdresser from Gothenburg, and incredibly good-looking, too.. I'm going hunting today, thanks for the tip! Cheers Chris
