Barry Posted November 7, 2008 Posted November 7, 2008 Just listening to this Wigan floor filler wit' wife, trying to explain what a biggie it was (and after the fact personal views stand for nowt as it was a floor-filler at Wigan) and why. And I found it difficult to explain it's appeal to her, she's younger, as it does sound like the theme from a Tomorrow People short film or something. It did have Ron Grainer elements in it, the Avengers running guitar etc, but I still in hindsight find it hard to put my finger on why I still find it appealing - I know memories stand for a lot, but still. A very weird record that seemed at the time to fit in easily after 'The Seeds' or the like. I have fond memories of it and it was part of my scene at the time - but how ha ha?

elvingtonred Posted June 13, 2017 Posted June 13, 2017 Have the issue from E Bay for £2.00 Mint Company sleeve! Hard to find on an issue, once owned the demo and it's still a great record!
Geeselad Posted June 13, 2017 Posted June 13, 2017 Great group who released some excellent albums. Also love "cosmic sea' as used on the infamous brainfreeze mix. Sorry can't post a clip at the moment.

dthedrug Posted June 16, 2017 Posted June 16, 2017 HI All.. Got a copy for £2 in early 74, sold it for £17.50 to a well known DJ, about 2 months later it was bootlegged with identical label? KTF
Bruv Posted June 17, 2017 Posted June 17, 2017 Astral Trip, another fabulous track that was played in the hey day of Northern Soul, so has it's part in the history of this great scene. As the saying goes variety is the spice of life. 1
Rob Wigley Posted June 19, 2017 Posted June 19, 2017 (edited) Memories from the time, 1975/76 I was working in Mansfield, It was a Wednesday and "Half day closing" for shops (Remember that ?), Phil Kingswood worked in Syd Booths Soul Centre in Mansfield at the time. I used to go there and look through the cheap section whilst it was quiet. He had access to all sorts of release sheets and distributors who stocked import LPs. He had found the Mystic Moods Album with Astral Trip on and ordered a couple of copies for the shop. When they arrived it had been recorded in "Quadrophonic Sound" ! Syd Booths also had an associated Hi-Fi Shop on Queens Street in Mansfield, we were heading for a drink at The Swan so called in at the shop, which was pushing the Quadrophonic Systems, put Astral Trip on, stood in the centre of 4 speakers and listened ! I remember the sound "Rushing " around the room sounding absolutely brilliant, I can certainly imagine it "Blowing the mind" of anyone on Acid at the time ! I still like the record, but as Barry says maybe it was because I was there at the time ? Rob PS a little later he also found Sammy Davis Jnrs Vocal to Hawaii 5 0 on an Album and ordered that in !
