Sorry, pissed.

Thanks for posting this.

I was reading Paul Donnelly's post earlier today which said the Wirrina shut in 76 and I was sure the couple of times I went (it was a basta*d to get to from Gloucestershire) were in 77 or 78.

Much preferred this nighter to the later (?) Fleet despite getting hassle from two big fellas for wearing pegs and plastic sandals - fortunately had bags and Solatios to change into. Remember a big Cheltenham turn out - POB, Kenny, Alison, Hippo?, Ray, Steve, Dave etc etc. Great tunes - very much like St Ives, perhaps unsurprisingly.

Gonna let you into a secret..its transpired since I wrote that piece that every nighter at the Wirrina I was connected with was illegal, and it would appear that Mr Giles and Mr Mindham had an 'arragemnent' Giles shat himself one night after some lad overdosed, ambulance and ob called and he told Mindham to go do one. Mindham at the time advised us the PCC had withdrawn the licence which was bollocks as the place never had one.

I'm sure Ken Cox took it on and ran it properly so to speak in 77 then the local lads took it on however to the best of my knowledge they were all in the Gym which I really hated, if back in 75 we'd stayed in the small room rather than changing to that souless Gym then that little all nighter would now be spoken about in far greater esteem.

I have some audio tapes of the Wirrina in full swing in the ballroom, The Trip, Timmothy Wilson, The Trip, the Gig, the trip, Debbie Flemming, the trip

hi mickeyb, i got stick from trotter, daboo and co for wearing my 'pegs' at the wirrina (and my sandals) but within 6 months they were all wearing pegs and ditching the 40" bags!

as PD says, the wirrina did carry on under the EASC banner for a while, in the smaller room then reedy and stuart gordon took it over after coxy had done with it and made it a gymnasium venue in the big room, lost it's apeal to me then, don't much like gymnasium venues.
