Pete S Posted November 5, 2008 Posted November 5, 2008 I'd suggest contacting the local evening newspaper about the story and asking them to put an appeal out saying you're offering a reward - if it is some druggy who's nicked them, he'd much sooner have the cash than the records, although it sounds to me like a planned robbery
Jumpinjoan Posted November 5, 2008 Posted November 5, 2008 Id say they knew what to look for....would seem a bit random otherwise! If not, you need to scour junk shops as the thieves wont know what they have? Terrible mate, i feel for you.! Yes but random things happen Paul all the time. It was a Tuesday night. If it wasn't outside a soul event then surely the chance of it being a soulie would be a little remote no? Unless of course they had been stalking Mr & Mrs Roberts just in the hope that they would put their records in the car. I agree with Pete's suggestion though... getting in touch with the local paper would certainly increase local awareness of the situation, which can only be a good thing.
Jimmy A Posted November 5, 2008 Posted November 5, 2008 I had a £30 record stolen a few weeks ago and was gutted, so i bet you must be feeling so low at this moment mate !! They will surface somewhere, probably not Nottingham or the Midlands thanks to all the gobs on here shouting about Rob smiths place , nothing like stating the obvious eh soul police , wonder what the odds are on the thief(s) having a PC and being on here or able to read all this ?? well if they are hopefully they will do the good thing and dump them somewhere safe and let someone know, not going to be many collectors/dealers who are going to buy this lot with out a few questions is there ? Ian. Didnt know Robs shop was such a well kept secret Ian...only about the most famous second hand record shop in the east mids
Little-stevie Posted November 5, 2008 Posted November 5, 2008 Most car parks with hotels have cctv nowadays.. I know as i have worked the door at quite a few.. No point in speculation before you check the tapes.... ..

Goldsoul Posted November 5, 2008 Author Posted November 5, 2008 Kev , Sam , I really hope you get them back , you must be heart broken , I know I would . Lets hope that the records find there way to Robs P.S is there any way of identifing the records , eg names on labels ect Hi Everyone, Firstly a major thank you for your support and kind words. It really has been a traumatic 24 hours with a reasonably happy ending. Let me outline exactly what happened. Following a terrific get together at the ION Bar, London on Monday night, we drove back on Tuesday and had a 7pm meeting at the Gateway Hotel, Nottingham, situated 1 mile from the M1/Jnc 26. We parked outside the Main Entrance as the Car Park was full. Good lighting, CCTV etc. The main problem with this well known venue is, it backs on to the Broxtowe/Strelley/Cinderhill estates, notorious for Drugs/Burglary etc, which overshadow the majority of decent people who live there. At 9.30pm, we realised someone had smashed the whole of the back window, which is no mean feat on a 4x4. You could not see into the back, so clearly a random 'lets take a chance n grab' scenario by local druggies. Following a sleepless night for the pair of us, a good samaritan from Broxtowe called us at 11am to say he had found my records strewn over the grass verge on Banks Lane close to the hotel along with our credit cards, driver's license etc etc. He discovered them cycling to work at 7am this morning. Clearly these were robbed by local scally's and not Soul fans. At 3pm this afternoon, I got the majority of my treasures back. At first glance my Lou Pride and Yum-Yums originals are missing and some British 45's are slightly water damaged ie Mary Love(King), Lynn Randell(CBS) with Herbert Hunter(Spar) cracked. My credit cards are intact but obviously we had cancelled them last night. The police are busy collating surveillance data, so hopefully the perpetrators will be caught. I think we all share the same mind about the thieving our Northern Soul originals. PLEASE TAKE EXTRA CARE OF YOURS! Once again.....thank you for your concern. The pair of us can sleep a tad easier tonight. Best Wishes, Kev and Sam PS To John Manship...thanks for your call....very much appreciated.
soulfulmick Posted November 5, 2008 Posted November 5, 2008 Glad it's a reasonably happy ending. Hope you get the missing records back. I'd like to think they'll get the b'stards and lock em away but they will probably only get their wrists slapped and will break into someone elses car/house and rob them.
Pete Eccles Posted November 5, 2008 Posted November 5, 2008 Great news and a great relief A reminder to us all when we stop off anywhere when travelling, services, pub etc, and always think about taking the records in with us, but usually think sod it they will be ok, Pete E
Steve G Posted November 5, 2008 Posted November 5, 2008 Glad you got them back. Really good news. And glad it is not an "inside job" but just scuzzos. PS: please don't leave credit cards in your car.
Dave West Posted November 5, 2008 Posted November 5, 2008 Really hope you get 'em all back Kev, a full list would be adventageous so we know what to look for.. Westy
Dave West Posted November 5, 2008 Posted November 5, 2008 SHIT...Hadnt read the full thread, great news Kev, the missing ones are still out there somewhere, keep searching soulies, they may have been "frizbee'd" a distance away. Hope Sam sleeps a bit easier now, can only imagine what you both went through, see you at Blackpool. Westy
mischief Posted November 5, 2008 Posted November 5, 2008 excellant news... strange they left the credit cards... any way ..... even to get 90% back is a bounus..
Guest Trevski Posted November 5, 2008 Posted November 5, 2008 If you want to leave valuable items in your car, like credit cards, house keys etc, use one of these, but lock it INSIDE the car! It's on the door here, as it's for surfers who dont have pockets in wet suits for car keys etc. great idea! get 'em here https://www.boardriderstuff.com/keypod-car-key-safe-171-p.asp Also, I chain my records in the back of the car thru' one of those D-rings bolted to the floor in the back/boot.
Jumpinjoan Posted November 5, 2008 Posted November 5, 2008 excellant news... strange they left the credit cards... And the licences. You can bet your life if anyone round here broke into a car and found credit cards and driving licences they'd think all their Christmas's had come at once. Makes you wonder if it wasn't just plain vandalism.

Chains and locks help stop a smash and grab theft, but I can't help thinking locks etc make things look valuable where otherwise they may be overlooked, When i was burgled they grabbed all the usual stuff but can't help thinkin if my boxes had locks on they may have been taken out of curiosity, Wasn't there a case not long back where a car was stolen with records in the boot, when car was found the records were still there intact?, maybe a lot more damage if stuff is under lock and chain, Anyway glad Kev got his 45's back (well most of em)

Don't want to be a prophet of doom or owt Kev, but if Lou Pride & Yum Yums are still missing I'd be wondering if that was a bit too coincidental (unless even bigger rarities were left behind) - even the most fooked up of druggies might still be aware of profit potential. This happened to me in Australia - we were woke up by a neighbour 5am Sunday after 2 hours sleep to find the car on bricks. Fortunately the premier league box was still in the boot and luckily the thieves were only interested in the alloy wheels. Its a sickening feeling though. Cheers Pete
Dylan Posted November 5, 2008 Posted November 5, 2008 if its a local chancer commiting what he thinks is a petty car crime they may end up on Bulwell market on Friday ? if its somebody on the scene then more than likely they will come unstuck trying to offload them. sorry to hear this it stinks.
soulpaul0 Posted November 5, 2008 Posted November 5, 2008 just like to say thank god you got them back and hope to hear them played out soon don,t let it put you off!! on a lighter note you wouldn't believe it if you found them laying about (have i gone to heaven? no hell I'm cycling to work )

Steve G Posted November 5, 2008 Posted November 5, 2008 What sort of insurance Chrissie? Insurance for records Joan. Please don't tell me you don't have it?
Iancsloft Posted November 5, 2008 Posted November 5, 2008 I,m sure the police will have a good idea who,s broke into your car usually its the same group of scum who do all the cars in certain areas and its just a matter of eliminating each one till they get to the right scumbag ... A few years ago i caught one guy in my car takin the radio out in broad daylight i dragged him out feet first and he came at me wi a screwdriver soon sorted him out put his head into the car bonnet causing a big dent which cost me over £100 to put right plus a new door lock the prick went to court and got fined £60 did,nt get my cost back or anything how bads that !!!! I just hope the police track down your 45,s should,nt be to hard really if they put the effort in like i said each area has a small band of scum which are responsible for 90% of the crime in that area..
Cheltsoulnights Posted November 5, 2008 Posted November 5, 2008 This is one of the worst crimes short of a physical attack. Hope it doesnt turn out to be one of our own. If its an opportunist, with a bit of luck they will surface. All the best with the search
Guest Fatius Bumius Posted November 5, 2008 Posted November 5, 2008 if its a local chancer commiting what he thinks is a petty car crime they may end up on Bulwell market on Friday ? I've been on Bulwell market today, it's flea market day. Usually the robbing toe rags try and offload whatever they've got onto dealers on the local flea markets or private 2nd hand shops. I've seen them try and offload CDs in a shop in Notts before, but the owner did ask "Where you get those from, and are they yours to sell". More like they came from a car or house he'd done over the night before! There was a record dealer on Bulwell market today, I turned his stall over. I went in all the charity shops as well, like I do The few missing records probably won't be found in one piece, more than likely they've been booted up the street in disgust cos Robin Git hoped to find some kind of power tool in the box that he could flog to a dealer on the flea market today to raise a fiver for his next fix.
Miss Schmidt Posted November 5, 2008 Posted November 5, 2008 Oh my god that is terrible! They might just throw the records in the bin or try and sell them to the nearest 2nd hand record shop! you should probably check if there is any of those in that area. good luck!
Dylan Posted November 5, 2008 Posted November 5, 2008 turned out fairly well in the end. Hope you tie up the few loose ends to get this mess fully sorted.
chrissie Posted November 5, 2008 Posted November 5, 2008 What sort of insurance Chrissie? Joan, my records are only worth about 2K but for replacement value I added an extra 1K and was able to do this on household insurance and cover up to 2K outside the house as long as I wasn't being paid for taking them out and as all my sets I do free cos no one would pay to hear me no probs. I would have to claim for each record individually so have now got to catalogue them and keep a note of what I take out each time, which isn't difficult as I have them all on a simple database and just run a report each time I take them out. I would think people like yoursself with larger collections and more expensive records would need to sort out some kind of specialist insurance. QoFxx
Sharon Cooper Posted November 5, 2008 Posted November 5, 2008 If its the Gateway Hotel at Cinderhill...thats between Bulwell and Broxtowe....say no more ... more people per square foot up to no good then anywhere else in the country in those two places Steady on now I was born there and spent my formative first 14 years there: Must say it has gone down the pan a lot since then! people are people wherever they are and the low lifes who did this could be replicated throughout the country: sign of the times and all that. Billywhizz Posted November 5, 2008 Posted November 5, 2008 A major theft occured tonight in Nottingham at the Gateway Hotel. Approx 150 Rare Originals were stolen from a car outside the hotel reception. Police investigation is well underway, but hopefully the scene can offer the right expertise. Any information/intelligence would be greatly appreciated and a reward is on offer. Please email me; samsinthehouse@aol.com A sample of the 45's-all originals STEINWAYS, SEVEN SOULS, MONTCLAIRS(Arch)DEAN COURTNEY(Black), LORRAINE CHANDLER-all 3, VIBRATIONS(EPIC), LOU PRIDE, MAJOR LANCE-NO MORE(Okeh), LEE DAVID, COASTERS, DYNAMICS, CARSTAIRS, JAMES FOUNTAIN. More to be added as we come to terms with the theft. Approx £40,000 in value. cctv will solve the problem, best of luck sam.
Prophonics 2029 Posted November 5, 2008 Posted November 5, 2008 I had 2 trucks stolen within two weeks and nothing, 6 CCTV cameras with the first mile either way. Pigs are too busy to worry about another car crime but a grizzly murder then that would get them out of the office.
Garrison Posted November 5, 2008 Posted November 5, 2008 glad to hear you got most of your records back , all the best nige

Going rent a safety deposit box tomorrow anything for a stress free life best John in da sun ps told told er in doors in from work ''she looking very sheepish ''
Soulacola Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 Nah Simsy...lots of scallies/chavs into petty car crime...smash and grab stuff looking for tool boxes...electronic equipment etc...I very much doubt it was soulies...they probably saw this big flight case and wondered what was in it...don't think it's any more sinister than that Id say they knew what to look for....would seem a bit random otherwise! If not, you need to scour junk shops as the thieves wont know what they have? Terrible mate, i feel for you.! to be honest you will probably find it was local druggies/oppertunists,was the box fancy or it could have looked like it might contain valuables? if it had been me id have checked the area in daylight with in 200 metres. petty car thieves usually stop when they know their not being observed and check what they stole, in your case to them "worthless records", it might pay to check behind all low walls near the area, around bins, alleyways, bushes within a mile, if these guys were local yokels they will have slung them after checking content, its not worth a patrol car nailing you or even carrying them back if theyre not worth money, criminals dont have any interest in 7 inch singles or knowledge of vinyl on ebay/posting/selling, id still go back and check the area, i cant beleive a soulie would steal these precious items from another, have you checked cctv in the area via police/council?? hope they resurface but it wont be on Ebay.

Dean Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 Hi Everyone, At first glance my Lou Pride and Yum-Yums originals are missing . Best Wishes, Kev and Sam PS To John Manship...thanks for your call....very much appreciated. I do some work in schools around that area, (Henry Mellish, River Leen, Ellis Guilford), I'll keep an eye for the missing two in case they've been dropped / thrown. I know it's silly given all the ills in the world and all the real problems some people face on a day-by-day basis, but I can't help but feel sick to the stomach at the thought of those two records laying out there somewhere, getting damaged. Post or Pm if you find them (or any others are found to be missing, but obviously if I see any 7" I'll contact you). Best wishes, Dean.

QoFxx House insurance covers mine ok at home but once I go outside, especially when used for commercial purposes as they call it, eg as a promoter/Dj then they not want to know. Had big problems in even getting household cover as once I declared my collection to my previous insurer they cancelled my cover with 7 days notice. All sorts of problems with insurance cover when out and about especially.
Guest sadsam Posted November 7, 2008 Posted November 7, 2008 As i post up before, it happened to me never got anything back only the car. But for six months or so i was so mad about, it ate away at me, so much so you veiwed every body in a different way. Don't let it eat you up. You got most of them, lets hope they catch the sod's. SAM
Ficklefingers Posted November 7, 2008 Posted November 7, 2008 (edited) It's bad enough the cost involved, but rare stuff you just can't replace. That is a MAJOR problem - if there are things in there that are One-Off's, for example.. they are also potentially lost to the world !! A piece of history GONE, KAPUT !! The entire world is denied any future benefit - derived when something is in existence, as opposed to just memories or pictures, for example !! That is potentially HOW GRAVE this thieving of records is. To reiterate Mr Dyson's sentiments - I don't think any soulie, that could help in these items safe retrieval, would be doing it for a reward.. rather, the common bond between members of our sub-culture is incentive enough. I wish you the best. Fingers Edited November 7, 2008 by FickleFingers
Dennisoul Posted November 8, 2008 Posted November 8, 2008 Fantastic news ... and I hope you get the 2 that are missing as well.
