Guest 2648 W Grand Boulevard Posted November 2, 2008 Posted November 2, 2008 This is a pre-emptive strike as there may be a further career move in the future. Anyone enlighten me as to any places in Swindon or the surrounding area that do soul nights. I have no desire to lose what I have re-discovered since moving to Yorkshire approx ten years ago. Any info gratefully received and stored for future reference. However if I do move, like General MacArthur I will return Dave

However if I do move, like General MacArthur I will return Dave Dave - nothing in Swindon regualr as far as i know - plenty in Cheltenham / Gloucs / Worcs well attended and variety of tunes!! - lots advertised in oxford - have not been personally but have heard good reports. Potentially great allnighter in Power Station Berkely - Gloucs run by Dave Thorley with top DJs but poorly attended. I'm from E Yorks been down hear years and healthy scene if you are preepared to travel a bit. Bridgewater nights also good!
Guest john s Posted November 3, 2008 Posted November 3, 2008 There are a couple of regular (monthly) nights in Bristol - Go, Go Children (that I'm involved in) - all 60s - underplayed soul / r'n'b / boss reggae / even some 60's beat - Getting Together - 60s / Crossover / 70s

Jerry Hipkiss Posted November 4, 2008 Posted November 4, 2008 Suggest you get down to Soulfusion (betweenn Cheltenham/Gloucester) on the 15th, you'll enjoy yourself no end!
Guest 2648 W Grand Boulevard Posted November 4, 2008 Posted November 4, 2008 Thanx for the info. If it all pans out at least I have a few recommendations. All the best, Dave
Md Records Posted November 4, 2008 Posted November 4, 2008 I don't think there's a lot on in Swindon (if there is it's not very well advertised) but plenty in Cheltenham/Gloucester/Bristol. The extremely popular "Soulfusion" is on next - lots of cheesy, but good oldies and an absolutely cracking Modern room. If you want a bit more "upfront" 60's/R & B then give the Riverside, or Pete French's doo's a try!! Haven't been to Dean's event yet, but it's got a very good reputation. Lots of excellent choice there, plus a few C.D./bootleg events that from a passionate soul fan's perspective, could be described as "Shite" at best, though good fun I expect, if you're not fussy!! Our next night is our second anniversary with Chris King and you are most welcome to come down and party with us. See Events,,,, SATURDAY THE 13TH. OF DECEMBER 2008 The troubles and egos are left at the door and we are only there to enjoy the music and have a great time. Maz, Steve, and I have always run our nights just for the hell of it and never take ourselves too seriously. (It's a bit difficult to be serious when you come from Planet Del.) So, if you feel like trying us email us at: dcsoxford@aol.com and I'll send you directions to The Empress. Looking forward to seeing you, Del. Oxford Soul Club P.S. Sorry, still rough from going to the Mallett last night P.P.S. Soulfusion is brilliant, we love it and so would you.
