Guest soul99 easylay Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 Mike sorry for posting this on the wrong forum, but I need to get maximum exposure for this & plus the fact it is soul relevant news about a big name on the scene. I'D BE REALLY GRATEFUL IF YOU WOULD PLEASE LEAVE ON THIS FORUM FOR TONIGHT SO IT GETS MAXIMUM EXPOSURE SO NO ONE IS DISAPPOINTED ON THE NIGHT. Dear All, Please be advised that due to recent surgery Soul Sam will now NOT be appearing for a set at the upcoming Soul Splash event in Scarborough on 1st November - he is to be replaced on the night by Flanny. 99 Soul Club obviously apologise for the late notice but they have just been advised themselves - they have asked me to pass on the following announcement: "ANNOUNCEMENT on behalf of 99 Soul ClubWe are sorry to announce that following recent surgery Soul Sam has just advised us that he is unable to appear on Saturday He is replaced on the roster by Flanny" For the link to the events topic for Soul Splash please see link here: https://www.soul-source.co.uk/99-Soul...503#entry909503 I'm sure you will all be sending your best wishes for a speedy recovery for Soul Sam. Guest soul99 easylay Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 Dear All, Apologies for the original post, as after having read it, it sounds quite ominous - the surgery that Sam has had is (as I understand it) routine arm surgery, so nothing drastic or traumatic, it just means that he can't drive all the way up to Scarborough. But after having read the messages of support, I realised that I hadn't really clarified what surgery Sam has had, so thought I better!! Sorry if I gave anyone a fright!!! Cheers TCK

Guest Brian Ellis Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 To put everyone straight with regards to Sam. His little finger and third finger left hand (no not Martha & The Vandellas ) have for some years become more and more permanently bent. So some 4 weeks ago he was admitted to hospital to have surgery to cut the tendons in his hand which released the bent fingers to a more normal position. He was in overnight, released the next day with his hand in plaster and supported in a sling. One week later the plaster cast was removed - 2+ hours in outpatients with me waiting! Last week stitches removed - another 2+ hours in outpatients! Today - best part of 3 hours hanging around while he had some physio! Not wanting to drive at the moment, so needs a chauffeur. Did Broughton with me 2 weeks ago, with me having to do the bulk of the humping, carrying, setting up, pulling down and driving etc. Think I'll apply for Attendance Allowance !! So he's on the mend, but his appearances across the country severely hampered by his not wanting to drive at the moment. Have told him he needs to get behind the wheel a.s.a.p. or he'll forget how to drive!! Didn't want to post a 'Sam in Hospital' thread 4 weeks ago as I didn't want to alarm any promoters as I wasn't sure how long it would take for him to make a sufficiently full recovery to fulfill his commitments. You'll know that Sam is totally averse to anything that has anything to do with computers, so not on-line and not a member of SS, therefore unable to interface directly with you. So as and when I get anything of interest I'll let you know. He is doing some relatively local bookings if he can get a driver for the night (Broughton 2 weeks ago; Stoke last week). I'll let him know that people are thinking about him. But no fears for his overall health, the old lad is very much alive and very definitely kicking . Brian

Brian Cheers for this Brian and clarifying exactly what's happening with Sam. I started the thread, so that anyone attending the Scarborough Soul Splash event on Sat 1st Nov, would know that now unfortunately Sam won't be attending to do his set (so no one would feel aggreived if they turned up and then found out he wasn't coming); however, after posting, I realised that I hadn't been very specific about the "surgery", so might have caused a few waves of concern, my apologies to all concerned if I have unduly worried/upset/offended anyone.......(bloody hell, it's starting to sound like a Brand/Ross/BBC press relese this!!)

Guest soul99 easylay Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 More breaking news folks! We are sorry to announce that Fraser Dunn is unable to attend on Saturday due to ill health. We wish him a speedy recovery. On a more positive note its still a brilliant line-up and we can confirm that locally brewed real ale will be available, there's a food bar, Banksy is bringing his record stall, and Dave Waller will be selling items of Soul Memorabilia. If that wasn't enough the forecast is for a sunny day (10 degrees) NB: For those travelling by car there are 2 other events at The Spa so on site parking whilst free will be in demand. That said there is free street parking within a 5 minute walk along Valley Road and adjoining streets, in the South Cliff area above The Spa and also an Underground NCP just 200 yards from the Complex - please note this will close at 3.30am on Sunday and re-opens at 8am. Once again the number for all late inquiries is 07703 791 545 Cheers TCK
Guest Brian Ellis Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 Maybe a full time job for you there Brian... Get well soon Sam... You have no idea Stevie .....maybe???? I've known Sam, and collected records with/alongside him since 1968................full time job does it absolutely no justice!!!!! Just how do you get this Attendance Allowance ? He's a great guy and a good friend ....... was it Arthur Daley who said 'A friend in need is a ........??' (can't quite remember the last bit of that ) Main thing is that he's on the mend and he'll be playing records somewhere near you, you and you real soon. Definitely a legend in his own crazy world of Northern Soul . Brian
