Guest mel brat Posted October 27, 2008 Posted October 27, 2008 (edited) I have had the following two promotional "samplers" on UK Tamla Motown since about 1973/4 and was wondering if anyone has details of any other such samplers on the label, and if so what are they? It would seem odd if these were the only two that UK Motown issued, given the peculiar catalogue numbers! The Tamla Triple-Pack EP was part of a promotional campaign (in 1973 I think) and comes in a picture sleeve showing the same image used in magazine ads. etc., showing the three albums in question. (The idea was that everyone buying one of the albums had a chance of winning a free trip to the States!) It features short snippets of the tracks listed with introductions by a UK narrator. The Tamla Triple-Pack SPSEP 2091 33 1/3 rpm Side One: Skywriter - Jackson Five (intro) Hallelujah Day - Jackson Five Neither One Of Us - Gladys Knight & The Pips Don't It Make You Feel Guilty - Gladys Knight & The Pips Masterpiece - Temptations Side Two: Law Of The Land - Temptations Skywriter - Jackson Five Daddy Could Swear, I Declare - Gladys Knight & The Pips The above tracks are taken from the new albums by Jackson Five - Skywriter Temptations - Masterpiece Gladys knight & The Pips - Neither One Of Us PSR 352 45rpm (Contains four full-length tracks from contemporary albums, with a typed track listing slip) We'll Have It Made - Detroit Spinners Ooo Pretty Lady - Al Kent Girl You Need A Change Of Mind - Eddie Kendricks Slick - Willie Hutch Edited October 28, 2008 by mel brat
Pete S Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 I take it that's a "no" then... I think I had 2 o 3 of those PSR demos, including the one you mention with Al Kent on it. I'll never remember what was on the others, though Gladys Knight may have been one one. Sorry, it was about 9 years ago, I only got £20 for the Al Kent one, bit surprised.

Guest mel brat Posted November 1, 2008 Posted November 1, 2008 (edited) Thanks John. Great info. I like the look of the EPs on Gladys Knight, Four Tops, Temptations, Miracles & Supremes! Now, any idea of issue dates for these? I have a couple of the promo UK Motown 12"s also, but was unaware of many of them. (Some of the American ones are even better!) John Benson Posted November 1, 2008 Posted November 1, 2008 I've no idea on release dates Mel The only one I have out of them is the "Christmas Greetings..." with Stevie Wonder's track "what Christmas means to me". I've not come across any of the others and only ever seen the one with Al Kent "Ooh pretty lady" on the odd list (but not for a long time) Maybe someone else knows?
Guest mel brat Posted November 1, 2008 Posted November 1, 2008 I've no idea on release dates Mel I'm pretty sure that PSR 352 is 1973, so the rest are after that date, apart from the 1968 item, obviously.
