Many thank Garv. link I do hope you got the Technics cheap. To quote the Irishman giving directions "Well I would not have started from here." If your main aim is to copy vinyl to CD all you need is a pre amp so whatever amp you buy make sure it has an input marked "phono" or get a seperate pre amp. Guest Baz Posted April 18, 2005 Posted April 18, 2005 cant recomend boss speakers highly enough they have a great punch to them i use old ION (about 10 years) seperats the amp has only a volume controll plays music how it was recorded but that can be a bad thing some times esspecially with 40 year old vinyl bet you could pick some great stuff up off ebay for a cut price i use the stienberg clean 5 too but cant seam to get a sound coming out when i record on to the comp any one know what im doin wrong

Guest James Trouble Posted April 19, 2005 Posted April 19, 2005 (edited) I used to use 1210s and a valve mixer with white labels to record my vinyl onto minidisc for the car. But since Wrighty and I went our seperate ways he took the gear with him I have now got a Rega P3 turn table with a fancy cartridge (can't remember name of cartridge) and a Pro-Ject Phono Box SE, I tried a number of different phone boxes and they made a big difference to the sound. Now when I play my records on mini disc through my Harman Kardon sound system in my car there is a massive difference to the sound I picked up through the 1210s. The records sound much warmer and clearer now. I was stunned by the difference. I can not recomend geting a good preamp highly enough. And for your technics I would recomend getting white label cartridges. They produce a much much better sound than anythign else I have used on the 1210s. Shure White Label Pro-Ject pre amp that I use and am very happy with, although there are much better modelson the market. Edited April 19, 2005 by James Trouble
FrankM Posted April 19, 2005 Posted April 19, 2005 With you on the Shure cart but the Pre amp at £100 would take up a quarter of his budget. The Rega is a better home deck than the Technics and is worth that investment of a good phono stage. The Project Debut II comes with an inbuilt phono and you can upgrade the Ortofon by changing the stylus for £50.

Pete S Posted April 19, 2005 Posted April 19, 2005 Makro sell this box containg two turntables and a mixer for £100. Same thing is £200 in HMV. Not exactly top of the range but for using at home it's perfectly good, also Richer Sounds do a good cheap amp by Acoustic Solutions, all this is great for tatting about at home. Get a standalone cd recorder for £150 or so.

Guest j a c k o Posted April 19, 2005 Posted April 19, 2005 Ive just bought a Technics 1210 mk2 deck & i`m looking to add the following. Amp, tuner, cd recorder & a pair of quality speakers, i would like to be able to copy vinyl to cd so i`m looking for advice/help on what works well with what. Any advice is vey welcome. Many thank Garv. link Garv Try something like a cheap marantz amp - up to £150 and comes with a built in phono input. Philips twin deck recorder at about £180, or if you've already got a cd player try a pioneer or marantz cd recorder. Finally some wharfedale diamond 8 or 9 speakers at about £180. Try Richer sounds for bargains. Hope this helps Andy
