Russoul1 Posted October 24, 2008 Posted October 24, 2008 hi all, been watching a item on ebay which was due to end tonight, the item concerned had no bids but just checked it and the auction has ended! i logged this as a watched item so im led to believe that he would see that the item was being watched. what do you think? russ
Cunnie Posted October 24, 2008 Posted October 24, 2008 What about auctions finishing late? Put an egg on to boil the other night at 5-57 & a record on Manships said 3 minutes to go. 20 minutes later & a burnt out saucepan

Oh and it was the same seller......for both items. Phyllis
Ernie Andrews Posted October 24, 2008 Posted October 24, 2008 They obviously had an offer that attracted them to end it early- Its as simple as that. I got aguy to end early becasue I made him an offer he could not refuse for it even though the auction had 3 days to run and the offer was less than book price.
JOE TORQUAY Posted October 24, 2008 Posted October 24, 2008 HI, SOMETIMES PEOPLE HAVE RECORDS FOR SALE ON OTHER SITES AT THE SAME TIME, GEMM / MUSICTACK / SOUL SOURCE / FOR INSTANCE, ALTHOUGH THEY SHOULD MENTION THIS IN THERE INFO, JOE.

pow wow mik Posted October 25, 2008 Posted October 25, 2008 people often contact sellers offering them X amount to take it off now. Can't see personally why sellers ever do this, as just the offer alone indicates what someone will bid, and therefore what it's worth. Worst case scenario all they need to do is get a mate to put in a bid just under that, but most likely it's an in-demand item that someone is trying to secure at a nice price. Having said that, I've done it myself, been refused and then won the item for less than i offered. If it's something you want bad, it's always worth e-mailing the seller immiediately and making them your own offer, if it's higher, they may well sell it you instead. People making off-auction offers deserve to be outbid, same as on-auction.

People making off-auction offers deserve to be outbid, same as on-auction. PEOPLE MAKING OFF-AUCTION BIDS IS HARDLY THE CRIME OF THE CENTURY I will use all my options to secure a record for the best price, including contacting ebay sellers and making offers off auction. Some times it works and sometimes not, sometimes it backfires and i end up worse off than if i'd sat it out till the dying seconds. The fact is a lot of ebay sellers ,especially from usa, have paid peanuts for these records or even found em in there parents attics ,so if i make em a decent offer ,why not take me up on it? Most of em do it because they are happy with the offer, are non the wiser and save on ebay commision for selling. My take on it is this, how many times have you seen USA sellers ,using the term "NORTHERN SOUL RARITY" on there listings for records that are either ,not Northern soul at all and definitely not rare. There are more people out there preying on our love of this music as there are buyers using there knowledge to prise a hidden gem from them! Lets be honest here,we ,as collectors will be the ones ,who've spent our hard earned for these records ,and will be left holding the baby when the scene eventually falls on its arse. Cant be any worse than people on here who ,like vultures, contact members in "wants" section and ask for OTT prices

Guest Posted October 29, 2008 Posted October 29, 2008 I had a strange one this week - Bobby patterson - I'm in love with you -Jetstar - offered price but realised that the seller had specified only to USA or Canada. I contacted him and asked if he would sell to Uk at buy it now price - he agreed after asking how much to ship to UK and asked me to make him an offer - i offered him 50 dollars - he then said 45 dollars - strange!! so i paid 50 including shipping coz he seemed a decent bloke!! We have been in conversation since and he has shipped so I wait in nervous anticipation!! If all goes well I think his main concern was with what is was going to cost to ship to Uk and nervousness in dealing with UK soul fans. Hope i have reassured him as he has other stuff he is going to auction!! Anyway great tune tune at good price if it arrives intact.
Dylan Posted October 29, 2008 Posted October 29, 2008 Having said that, I've done it myself, been refused and then won the item for less than i offered. I hope that happens to me this week
