Guest MBarrett Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 I heard yesterday from a fairly reliable source that Paul Weller was originally targeted for a cameo acting role in the film. Possibly(?) the role as record shop owner now played by Hugh(Huey) Morgan of Fun Lovin' Criminals. So maybe this is how PW's name was associated with the film. Not from the musical angle. Anyone from Ipso Facto care to confirm/deny??!! (Apologies if this already reported but I don't recall seeing it.) MB
Little-stevie Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 The world wide net gives us much info at the click of a switch... Just got this from quick google search.. also in google about Dap Kings and others in the soundtrack for the movie ... Article taken from N.M.E.... Paul Weller, Duffy, Mark Ronson's band for Northern Soul film soundtrack Paul Weller 2005 Plus 'Souled Out' producers are looking for extras Aug 14, 2008 0 Comments Paul Weller news, reviews, video and tour dates Add Paul Weller to MyNME Paul Weller, Duffy and Mark Ronson's studio-band The Dap-Kings are working on the soundtrack for a new independent film about Britain's 1970's Northern Soul phenomenon. 'Souled Out' stars BAFTA winner Martin Compston, who rose to fame after appearing in Ken Loach's 2002 film 'Sweet Sixteen'. The movie's producers are looking for extras who are willing to appear in some of the dancehall scenes, which will be filmed in Stoke-On-Trent on August 23. Those interested are asked to apply on the film's website, Ipsofactofilms.com. Northern Soul has made something of a comeback in recent times, with artists such as Amy Winehouse and The Rumble Strips taking a direct influence from the scene. One of Paul Weller's earliest songs - a homage to the genre titled 'Left, Right and Centre' - was recently covered by Northern Soul legend Dean Parrish and sometime Babyshambles' collaborator Lord Large. Lily Allen's brother Alfie is also set to star in 'Souled Out', which will be released in 2009.
Steve G Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 I look forward to seeing the finished film with interest - if it ever gets finished. PW as a record shop owner - fine no issue with that. I'll give my views on the film once I've seen it.
Guest Beeks Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 Thought we'd laid this ghost to rest...at least until the film comes out haha...here comes another 10 billion pages of crap

Guest Simon Posted October 22, 2008 Posted October 22, 2008 Please feel free to join my Facebook group MADDONS - 'Movement Against the Dumbing Down Of Northern Soul', one of the things MADDONS is against is "Celebrities desperately attaching themselves to NS as to appear cool", looks like this film has it in spades. Northern Soul is not Duffy, Paul Weller or Amy Winehouse, all fine artists but are NOT NS nor is Tom Jones for that matter. Simon
Barry Posted October 22, 2008 Posted October 22, 2008 "Celebrities desperately attaching themselves to NS as to appear cool", If that's the case then I'll bet their agent's were pissed off after the POG Show then?

Guest andyrattigan Posted October 23, 2008 Posted October 23, 2008 Oh no not another Souled out thread!! How long will this one go on for? I hope the film is good and doesnt unintentionally caricature the Northern Scene, if it does then I will have to eat humble pie and hope the clips with me in it are cut out. The crew that I met were a genuine nice bunch of people and showed us a lot of respect. I can understand people's reservations about media attention and the possible negative consequences of too much exposure. The underground aspect of our scene is one of the ingredients that make it so special.
