Sebastian Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 The original (local) release of "Give A Man A Break" is on UPLOOK. The later national release is on ABBOTT. An absolute monster tune on either of the labels ofcourse!
Cover-up Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 The other two Charles Mintz singles on Uplook are: Since I Found You Girl b/w Blues So Bad Lucky Guy b/w Running Back One easy to find and one NOT easy to find... sure there's clips on Soulclub.org - if not on here somewhere...
Soul-slider Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 Cracking tune this one! I included this on our local Soul night free givaway CD. Also, 'Give A Man A Break' was released on orange 'Up Look' re-issue a few years ago with Delegates Of Soul on the flip.
Garethx Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 I too would love to know more about the Abbott label if anyone knows more. Was it some kind of budget label? I ask because the pressings and labels are almost uniformly shoddy on all the releases I've had or seen, and some like the Charles Mintz had been released on other labels in other locales. Also, are there any albums? TIA for any information, gareth.

Guest John Buck Posted May 13, 2010 Posted May 13, 2010 (edited) Here is what I've got as far a discography goes: ... Any corrections/additions are most welcome. I visually confirmed most data / cat #'s listed, except for 2018, 164 and 237 (which are most elusive). Technically, the heading should read "as far a discographies go" (plural). Between ABBOTT 2030 and ABBOTT 37000 is the boundary line between 2 different labels (on opposite coasts) formed 2 years apart: From #2010 thru 2030, it's Abbott Records from New York City (distributed by Golden Records). From #37000 on down, it's another Abbott Records of California (distributed by United Artists, named after founder Mike Abbott and launched in 1972 Edited May 13, 2010 by John Buck
