Another beautiful songstress called home.

I took a quiet minute and listened to her singing "Ring of Bright Water" on water, how poignant.

God Bless, sleep in peace.

what a shi* weekend.

Yes, she is Dionne Warwick's younger sister and yes, they started out together singing gospel music at the New Hope Church in Newark, New Jersey. The sisters even started doing background sessions together in the early '60s, rapidly becoming in-demand session singers of the day, using those gospel-honed harmonies on hit records for Ray Charles, Dinah Washington, Little Eva, Garnet Mims and The Drifters among many others. Warwick is and always has been, very much her own woman.

I've just seen via a youtube clip, that Dee Dee Warwick died today in East Orange, New Jersey following a lengthy illness.

I do hope that this information is wrong, especially so soon after Levi Stubbs' death. Can anyone confirm this?

It's not been a great weekend mate. One of my favs is 'foolish fool', really sad news

Awful news - still knackered over Levi's passing and then this hits ya.......there's gonna be some welcoming party up there over the next few days. Recall acquiring Monday Monday as one of my first batch of discs.

One of my faves from the lady was "Don't you ever give up on me"

Really crap w/end!!

RIP Dee Dee

Will be sadly missed. Such an under rated talent, left some great songs, not just Northern related. Search out her CD 'I Want To Be With You - The Blue Rock/Mercury sessions for her best output:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Want-Be-You-Dee-Wa...1929&sr=8-2

Includes the original version of 'I Gonna Me You Love Me', 'Do It With All My Heart', the best version of 'Alfie', and 'Dont' Give Up On Me'.

Some great songs and soulful arrangements.

RIP

Yet more sad news of a great loss to our music. As an earlier poster said, sadly underrated by the general public, but loved by the soul scene.

Love Slips Away and Where's That Rainbow come into my mind as I type this, but many others.

RIP Dee Dee.

Dee Dee Warwick (September 25, 1945 - October 18, 2008[1]), was an African-American soul singer. She was born in Newark, New Jersey as Delia Mae Warrick. Warwick was the niece of gospel singer, Cissy Houston, cousin of singer, Whitney Houston and sister of Dionne Warwick.[

I can see no exclusive article on this ladies tragic death last week and I think there needs to be one !

Dee Dee's pedigree was awesome, just look above at that magic triangle. For me, every song that she ever sang was special with her own distinctive voice. I never got to see her live and had always hoped that a promoter would make it happen. Sadly, this will not now happen. Everone has a favourite Dee Dee song; so please tell me yours and any other kind comments on this great ladies career..................

Cheers................ Tom H. Banbury.
