Guest
I've always loved the flip side of Lenis Guess' tune "Just Ask Me", the track is called "Workin' For My Baby". I've had a crackly, tinny Real Player version of it for years and I finally found the 45. I bought the 45 on the S.P.Q.R. label and was shocked at how different this version was. It was much slower and there were no back-up singers. I sped the record up and soon realized that the version I've been loving all this time was actually a sped up recording... that's fine but where are the back up singers I love so much? I went so far as to find and purchase the 45 again on the UK Route label hoping the later pressing was a remix... but it was just the same. Here is my question: Where can I find the alternate version of "Workin' For My Baby" by Lenis Guess? I'm at a loss and any help would be much apreciated. Sebastian
The only version of "Workin For My Baby" which matters to me is the one by Gary (U.S.) Bonds on the Legrand label. It's recorded over the same backing track, but has got more oomph, grittier vocals and backing singers. I love this track to bits. Here's an RA of it: (perhaps this is the one you've been liking all along? ) Link to comment Social source share
Andyf
Lenis Guess also got a release on Le Grand, but no backing singers on that either. Think Sebastian may be right Link to comment Social source share
Sebastian
Really like the design of the Legrand label as well. Have a look: Link to comment Social source share

Guest
That's a pretty good version but this is the cat's meow. Recognize it? Marty the Mod Link to comment Social source share
Sebastian
That's a pretty good version but this is the cat's meow. I disagree. Very poor lead vocal. Annoyingly sped up, he sounds like one of the chipmunks. Sorry, each to their own and all that, but it's Gary US Bonds for me every day of the week. That was the only version I had for years so you can imagine my shock when I heard the 45 for the first time. All that aside, do you hear the back up vocals? Totally different from the Gary US Bonds version and different from the 2 Lenis Guess 45s I have (sped up of course). So back to my original question; Like it or hate it, I'd like to find this version of this song, can anyone help me out here? Link to comment Social source share

Russ Vickers
Have another version, John Frogg, insane version and pretty big on the European mod scene right now The best version by far IMO is by King Edward & his BD'S on ROGA massive massive vocal & shifts like a freight train wow. Agent45
There's a promo pressing of the Lenis Guess single with a slow and a more up-tempo version of "Working For My Baby". However, neither is as fast as the sound file posted previously. Surely that's a WAY pitched up recording. Link to comment Social source share
