Guest trickwilley Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 (edited) Hi I am new to the Northern Soul scene; coming more from a 60s garage vibe. I started getting into the Northern Soul scene after i heard a compilation which consisted of: Cliff Nobles - My Love Is Getting Stronger Moses Dillard & The Showmen - Pretty As A Picture Clarence Reid - I'm Your Yes Man Lorraine Chandler - I Can't Go On Jimmy Holiday & Clydie King - Ready, Willing And Able Delicates - Stop Shovin' Me Around Deon Jackson - That's What You Do To Me Mighty Marvelows - Talkin' Bout Ya, Baby Four Voices - Your Love Is Getting Stronger Thee Midniters - You're Gonna Make Me Cry Eldridge Holmes - Lovely Woman Ann Sexton - You've Been Gone Too Long Donald Lee Richardson - You Got Me In The Palm Of Your Hand Lillian Dupree - Hide & Seek Al Williams - I Am Nothing Baby Huey & The Baby Sitters - Just Being Careful Shawn Robinson - My Dear Heart Sunny & The Sunliners - Should I Take You Home Chubby & The Turnpikes - I Know The Inside Story Sam & Kitty - I've Got Something Good Bob Marshall & The Chimes - Never Seen A Girl Like You Butlers - She Tried To Kiss Me Four Pros - Just Another Girl Billy Butler & The Chanters - Nevertheless Maurice & The Radiants - Baby You Got It Ringleaders- Baby, What Has Happened To Our Love Marvin Smith - Who Will Do Your Running Now Admirations - You Left Me Romeos - Mon Petite Chow Many of you are probably aware of this compilation and many of the tracks on it, many of which are heavy. I am wanting to start getting a few 45s in my collection so I would be grateful if people could give me a list of some great easy and cheap records to check out. I have looked at a few threads and cannot see a thread dedicated to specifically this (apologies if there is). Please post as many suggestions as you can think of. Supercorsa Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 If you want i could post a download link to this compilation. I wouldn't advise it, just that part of site rules is that links to download sites are not allowed. Try listening to some stuff on the Refosoul pages, then if you like anything just try looking on record dealer sites, ebay and even the sales section on here. I saw on your list Deon Jackson, I'd recommend you check out some more of his records. A couple of other artists to start with for good cheap records would be Gene Chandler & Jackie Wilson.

Our Kid Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 Good & Cheap - the magic mixture! Don't know where you live but I believe a trip to a specialist shop where they have loads of tunes and a deck or two is worth every penny. Thing to remember is that we all have different tastes and you will find your groove on a mission like that, where I am sure you will find more than enough willing people to guide you. You have started with an awesome base with that CD. Good Luck Paul
