Pauldonnelly Posted October 29, 2008 Author Posted October 29, 2008 thats not guy darrel thats Ray Whitley, en it?
Sjclement Posted October 29, 2008 Posted October 29, 2008 Paul, CD came this morning. The "BOLLOX" mate. Loved it and playing through again as I type this. Yeah, the sounds are predictable but what sounds they are. Back to the days before the net, cd's soul radio when all week one could only listen to ones own records or a tape of a mate's records. No wonder the coming weekend was on your mind all week when one had to really travel to hear these great sounds when they were at their hight. A whopping slice of Northern nostalgia Thanks again Paul. Well said that man, The Wirral has always been a soul desert I can count on one hand the number of local northern fans I know and boy, did we yearn for those weekends and those weekly packages from Selecta disc, Record corner, and occasionaly Blues n' Soul. I've probably had most of those sounds in my collections at one time (mainly pressings) but hearing them played out will be a wonderful experience. I knew a guy who went to the Torch roundabout that era 'Bootlace' and his girlfriend Geraldine any one remember them Also a guy, Charlie Taylor (Parker?) who used to go to the Mecca and sold me April Stevens and Jimmy soul Clarke is he still around? Paul cheques on the way John

Guest Dave Turner Posted October 29, 2008 Posted October 29, 2008 thats not guy darrel thats Ray Whitley, en it? Paul, yeah you're right its Ray Whitley. I was just flicking through the tracks and without listening too hard I just wrongly thought it was Guy Darrell. Track listing amended. Pass on thanks to all concerned in putting this corker of a CD/tape together.
Guest Dave Turner Posted October 29, 2008 Posted October 29, 2008 Exciters - Number One I had no idea what this was, now on my wants list... On Shout, not sure what they're going for nowadays but circa £10-£15 I reckon. Ain't it odd when, for whatever reason, a once popular and well played choon passes one by. I still occassionally come across early 70's "oldies" that I've never heard before, or if I did it didn't at that time register.

Looks like you guys have got it all sorted. Just look at those records, you can't imagine how rare some of them were back then. I have to say I do find it difficult to remain emotionless when I play this tape, we were all gonna live forever, bulletproof and shagged all night long We still chuckle when we do "Martyn Ellis" anecdotes, halcyon days............
