Garethx Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 The EP is a US four-tracker from the Rashida album. It comes in a black & white gloss paper cover, rather than in a board cover like a European EP. I've never seen a release copy of it and wonder if it's a 'promotional use only' release? I bought one from Ian Clark about twenty years ago and didn't see another copy for quite a while after that, but have noticed that most people who play the track in clubs these days have tended to do so from the four-track single rather than the album, so it can't be ultra-rare. Couldn't speculate on price, I'm afraid, but the album is much cheaper in these days of ebay, gemm and musicstack than it ever was in the old days. Watch out for the lookalike 're-issues' of the album being passed off as originals, though. I don't have Rashida these days but seem to remember it being on Dynaflex vinyl: a custom RCA process which produced very lightweight, very flexible vinyl which the bootleggers would find difficult to replicate. Would You Believe In Me is probably my favourite Jon Lucien track, closely followed by Listen Love from the Mind's Eye set: a unique and much missed vocalist.

I beg to differ Gareth - that EP IS rare - very, very few in circulation and totally promo-only (and it's also a slightly diff mix Gareth - right?) - I've only ever had me own mitts on one copy and seldom see it when going thru collections. In fact - I've had far less copies of that than his other essential Ampex 'Search For The Inner Self' 45 - u r completely right about 'Rashida' though sir - what was once a £100 'grail' is now a £30 also ran - a wonderful LP - no doubt - but the value had dropped back incredibly over the years... Garethx Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 Hi Mark On reflection you're absolutely right about it being a hard record, it's just that in the last eighteen months or so I think I've seen Gavin, Steve G and Ivor all playing the track from the EP; it's clearly the most desirable format for the tune. I can't say that I'd noticed the album and single versions of WYBIM being a different mix, however I do remember that they are roughly the same duration, so kept the 45 and sold the album when prices for the latter were higher. yours in soul gareth

Garethx Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 Vandriver: establishing how common the record is might give you a better idea of how much to pay for the said EP.

Marc Forrest Posted October 16, 2008 Posted October 16, 2008 Thought myslef that it must be quite hard to get (rather than being indeed ultra rare) as I couldn`t find that damned thing for over ten years. Aftrer I finally got one off the internet at around 75 UKP I play it out at a local funk night and a mate of mine falls in love with it, get online and finds a coipy for 50 USD something ...oh its all so relative with these record values, isn`t it ?! Marc

Tolbert Posted October 16, 2008 Posted October 16, 2008 Soul Source member hakenig had the ep in his list last month. Maybe he still got it for sale... Tolbert
jocko Posted October 16, 2008 Posted October 16, 2008 ANd now everyone is off chasing the 45 anyone want to sell me an original LP really cheap, found out last year one I had was re-issue (and yes it does matter to me any lurking EMS members )
Girthdevon Posted October 16, 2008 Posted October 16, 2008 I had both the LP and EP at one time......offloaded the EP cos the LP pressing was better/louder. Not a massive difference but enough for me to consider the EP not worth keeping......that, and the fact the LP is brilliant !!! Would You Believe, Lady Love, Luella & War Song are all faves....and i'm sure they weren't all on the EP..... Quite often it turns out that the 7" pressings are lower press than the LPs......James Mason - Sweet Power is notable for being a terribly low press on the 45..... Girf
