Missgoldie
I've been led to believe that Connie Austin was murdered after recording Ball of fire and that The Curtis Liggins Indication band died on the way to a gig. In typical fashion I don't recall where I heard these things so I thought someone here might enlighten me as to whether either of these events are true. Sean Hampsey
I've been led to believe that Connie Austin was murdered after recording Ball of fire Probably Chinese Whispers. The story I heard was that she murdered the record! Joking apart... I never heard either tale! And I know Marva Whitney's came later... but there's no comparison IMO. Marva's version blinds it! Sunnysoul
Like Sean, I've never heard that story about Connie Austin before and I don't think much of note about Connie was contained in Kent's CD booklets on the King label releases Vols 1 & 2. Connie's version of Ball of Fire is superior to Marva's ... but only just. And don't forget the other side of the Connie Austin record , the stomping mover "She Made A Mistake". Sunnysoul
Also begs the question, was Connie Austin related to the other King label artist of the time - and James Brown alumni - Leon Austin ... "the Mighty Burner" ??? In fact, the plot now thickens a little ... if you read this about Leon's allegedly violent disposition https://stepfatherofsoul.blogspot.com/2005/...-his-house.html and his interesting background https://chronicle.augusta.com/stories/lates...ciatedies.shtml ... maybe just maybe there is a connection between the two artists ??
