Guest Posted April 13, 2005 Posted April 13, 2005 Would anyone reccommend a Particular soul magazine or are they outdated given the internet? link Soul Up North Soulful Kinda Music Manifesto there are others to, but these three are my current favs.
Simsy Posted April 13, 2005 Posted April 13, 2005 Manifesto I'd say. Think it's published by Bee Cool. Top mag
Guest Johnny One Trout Posted April 13, 2005 Posted April 13, 2005 I think you would have to include "In The Basement" and "N.Soul" I haven't had chance to read the latest NSoul but (although i'm probably biased) I think Ali was doing a great job with Editing NSoul so much so it was at least the equal of all those mentioned IMVFHO that is Trotski
Cheapsiderecords Posted April 13, 2005 Posted April 13, 2005 The only one I buy now is Shades OF Soul although I did also enjoy Soul Rennaisance. I have the first 3 but have since moved to Canada - what number are they on now.
Iancsloft Posted April 13, 2005 Posted April 13, 2005 Derek Pearsons Shades of Soul brill mag all the back issues if you can get hold of them are a great read..seen a couple of the earlier issues on E-Bay last few weeks In my opinion all the soul mags are a good read and well worth a few quid Kev Roberts latest mag is excellent use to love Alan Coneys Heart Full of Soul mag but not seen a copy for ages back issues are a must, full of good info and great for a laugh
Guest alison Posted April 13, 2005 Posted April 13, 2005 In The Basement is probably my favourite, though Voices from the Shadows was the business in it's day.

jocko Posted April 13, 2005 Posted April 13, 2005 Evening Jock What u been up to then? Jakey link Hi Derek, Not a lot, all work and no play at moment, although due to long working hours am spending too much on records, just dont have time to listen to them!! I am hoping to get to Lifeline on Saturday but depends on work situation Friday, keep threatening to come down your neck of woods one day for either one of Pauls dos or Ions, if do we should meet up for a beer, hoping to talk Steve into going to Stafford reunion, havent spoken to him in a while, Cheers Jock
Guest Posted April 14, 2005 Posted April 14, 2005 Best value mag IMO is.....Howard Earnshaw`s SOUL UP NORTH. Especially when you normally cadge one for nowt! But seriously the price is low and you`re paying for quality content. Not posh glossy paper, flashy photos,adverts.... And try wiping yer ar*e on shiny paper after you`ve done reading it....no chance....
Guest Coxy Posted April 14, 2005 Posted April 14, 2005 I remember Steve Davis funding this. Any one know why it stopped? Col. link I think Rods record sales just got too busy for him to keep up a magazine aswell. However an artical by Rod did appear in issue 3 of Tim Brown`s "rare soul review" mag around the begining of last year. Another very good mag which you dont see anymore was Andy Loves "love music review". Covered all aspects of soul music 60`s through to new releases and deep soul too. Trev
