Got something up an Ebay with a ''buy it now'' tag

question - if someone places abid on the said item and its not the B-I-N price - do I have to sell it for the bid price ?????????

No mate usually when a bid is placed the Buy it now comes off and its a straight auction, but there may be variants but usually the seller dictates this when listing it

Does it have both an auction & buy-it-now?

If it does yes you will have to sell it at the finishing auction price even if it's less than the buy-it-now price.

so I don't have to let it go at the bid price ?

do I contact the bidder and state that the b-i-n price had not been reached so no sale ?

There was a starting price and a buy it now price

surely the buy it now tag acts as a reserved price tag without adding a reserve price ?????

When there has been a bid it's a straight auction and you are obliged to sell at the final auction price.

If you aint got a reserve on it it will go to the highest bidder,if the BIN is still on then someone could use that to buy it.Usually people wait and see if they can get it cheaper than the BIN

The buy it now tag does not act as a reserve price, you have to put this on yourself

Yes you do - that's why some people set reserves.

Derek's correct. As a BIN all you are offering is a buyer the opportunity to buy it without going through the auction process prior to anyone else bidding. Once a bid is placed the auction goes live so to speak and the 'buy it now' facility is defunct. At least that's how I've always understood the process.

Thanks for all the advise guys, so in a nutshell a £150.00 45 would be sold at £9.99 if no more bids on it

Yes.... as has been ansewered by others before.... should have had a reserve in place as well if opting for BIN and straight auction (when a bid is entered instead of the BIN) when listing....

Of course you can "pull it" and have the dreaded "no longer for sale" added to the listing ....

If you dropped a bollock, simply pull it and explain to the bidder you made a mistake. Everyone drops a clanger now and then. Long as your honest about it I'd be happy to withdraw a bid I had on.

I got caught out with it once a while ago too. Now i only use buy-it-now with the best offer option which works out fairly well.

Just a thought you can cancel the persons bid then withdraw it from sale . You'll have to give a reason for cancelling the persons bid (they give options for that)

Just had a really nasty thought.

What a great way of getting people to bid on your record,.......Go on Soul Source and make out you made a big howler in listing it, then all and sundry go on the auction to try and get a bargain.......15 seconds to go and it goes from £9.99 to £150 plus..

Bloody clever that Shute mate Your a sodding genius.

Also if your gonna pull it from auction, do so PDQ. I think there is a time limit on closing an auction (12 hours or more?) or is that just modifying an auction ? - may pay to check with only 17 hours to go.
