pikeys dog
Is it really rare enough to warrant an auction spot? I've had one for years (paid about a fiver for it), and have had a slack handfull of copies of it as "The Lovers" on Philips. surely not that expensive a tune? Dave Pinch
i bought my emotions from the collossus that is andy dyson for £20 some years ago and probably only had one other chance to buy it. In say the last 10 years ive had 6 oppotunities to buy lester tipton and its only because my pockets are not that deep that ive never owned one dave Link to comment Social source share

This was always a well known sweet soul record, not around in quantity but copies come up as it sold when it came out. Additionally, this isn't even the rarest FORMAT for "do this for me", the Lovers on GATE (local press before phillips) is 10x rarer. Link to comment Social source share

LOOKING AT POPSIKE IN GENERAL THE VARDAN COPIES ALWAYS SELL FOR DECENT SUMS. OF THE HALF DOZEN COPIES LISTED, ANYTHING BETWEEN 50 TO 200 UKP. THE LAST ONE I SAW SOME FOUR MONTHS AGO FETCHING 355 USD. OF THE HALF DOZEN COPIES LISTED, ANYTHING BETWEEN 50 TO 200 UKP. THE LAST ONE I SAW SOME FOUR MONTHS AGO FETCHING 355 USD. the vardan record usually doesn't show up on popsike because it goes for under $50 usually and popsike doesn't index cheap records. It's usually beat up, though, it is harder to find clean. I must have missed any instance of it that sold over $150, it must be a recent increase. Additionally, this is the type of record that usually doesn't go through ebay -- there are 100,000s of thousands of records that don't register on dealer's radar as rare enough to put on ebay and sit in their boxes at record shows. I've even found this record in chicago (always beat up) 3 times at record shows and this record is from the bay area. Records like these haven't been imported to the UK really because in the past there wasn't demand at least and the northern side was very common on phillips. I will also say that my opinion totally doesn't matter at this point because if in the last year people decided that this is a $400 record that makes it a $400 record, it IS rarer than some other records that go for that much. It is NOT rarer than records like Lester Tipton, Don Gardner, etc. though. Link to comment Social source share

This is on ebay at least several times a year, for example, again usually beat up, but it does turn up. Comparing it to the absolute rarest records is out of line. I agree that at this point you can call it a 'rare' record, at least compared to other records that sell for a similar amount, and it is usually trashed. tosh
Now its hit a certain price its worth the dealers and runners bothering with [in the states], plus now its reached the dizzy heights of J M s auction site it will keep the inflated price. We have only ourselves to blame, having said that i have only seen 1 other copy for sale in 20 years. There lies a dicotomy. Tosh Having said that just sold a copy for £80, so thats a bit ? bri pinch
LIKE I SAID BEFORE THERES AT LEAST HALF A DOZEN COPIES REGISTERED THRU POPSIKE SELLING IN THE 150 - 350 USD IN THE LAST COUPLE OF YEARS, CHANCES ARE JOHNS ONLY AUCTIONING IT MAYBE BECAUSE HE'S NOT 100% SURE OF A PRICE SO HE'S LETTING THE PUNTERS DECIDE. I just looked on popsike, I couldn't find the $355 you talked about but I did find a recent one for $250 and the other ones for $200 and under, but clearly I'm out of touch about the price at this point because I didn't even think it went for that much but apparently it did. Dave Pinch
I love the spoken intro myself nick and its only on the varden release. also ive heard the sweet soul flip out early doors at northern do`s so does that make it northern soul. it does in my book and thats what i like about this broad church thats known as the rare soul scene. on friday night i played do this for me out. fair enough it thinned the dancefloor out a tad but one guy came bounding on the stage. he says ` what was that, its ....kin brilliant i thought it was the immpressions`. even though its cheap and available on philips as the lovers a lot of people still dont know it..if joes got any copies left they should be snapped up immediatley dave Edited October 5, 2008 by dave pinch Link to comment Social source share

The Philips release is very slightly faster (Running time listed as 2:26, Vardan release 2:34). Was it released on Philips without the intro as well? KevH
Hi,the Emotions is probably(imho), the best "Vietnam" record, followed by The Intentions - "Don't forget that i love you".Vietnam thread anyone? Not everyones cup of tea, but wanted enough for the "b" side "Love of a girl" to warrant auction. After the spoken intro,"DTFM" moves in to a niter sound, but "LOAG" is the clincher. I suspect the Lovers version is The Emotions speeded up, to give it a more commercial feel.Who can tell lately what records are going to command?. Whether it sells for £1 or £100 doesn't take away the quality of the record, and this is quality especially "LOAG". all of course imho ,,Kev. I think their is an interesting story about this record and the label owner but cannot remember for the life of me!
