Dave Moore
Just had a 45 delivered with the label (and the vinyl underneath it split perfectly in a circle). Record is split about 75% the way round the label just on the edge of the label. Still plays perfectly. The guy says it wasn't like this when he packed it. It was well packed and there's no damage to the package at all. The guy has a good reputation. Thoughts anyone? Strange one. I have definitely had records cracked around the inner rim like that before. Only like small cracked, though, never had 75% of it cracked. But I imagine if a crack like that started and you applied pressure it would continue to crack that way. There might have been the start of the crack before shipping? Prophonics 2029
Wonder if it was done when the record was pressed, stuck in the mould and popped out when it was hot. What's the record Dave not The Poets n a rare press demo Link to comment Social source share
pikeys dog
i've had one in the past that was almost fully popped like that - the crack followed the final portion of the trail out groove, so presumably it happened during manufacture. Link to comment Social source share
boba
i've had one in the past that was almost fully popped like that - the crack followed the final portion of the trail out groove, so presumably it happened during manufacture. I have actually accidentally cracked previously uncracked records at the rim, I don't see why it would be a manufacturing defect. Like if you step on the record, there's already grooves there, it's not unlikely to crack at that spot. Link to comment Social source share

Dave Moore
The 45 is Jimmy Helms - You're Mine You - Symbol W/Demo. Which was actually MINT- before it's liccle 'accident. First time I've had anything like this happen. I think it's a latent defect. I think it was just waiting to pop and somehow in transit, that happened. Pleased to say that the seller has refunded me 30% and I think that's a fair solution. Was a bit of a bargain anyway at 20 squidleys. It still plays perfect and if handled with care should be OK. Trev Thomas
ive had / got a few like this..strange thing is, they all seem to be chicago things, vontastics - i'll never say goodbye, mitty collier - pain & a few chess things + a copy of the impressions - you've been cheating where the label quite litereley fell out of the record Edited October 4, 2008 by soulman1964 Link to comment Social source share
