Uses Duke Reid's rhythm for the Techniques' YOU DON'T CARE (1967), which is a version of an old Soul or R&B song, which I don't have and can't remember what it is.

I don't care much for BARBWIRE - I don't like Nora Dean's whining voice on this one and do prefer MESHWIRE, or indeed the B side of the DJ piece (Dennis Alcapone's THE GREAT WOGGIE). Although BUTTERCUP (VERSION) is credited to Dennis Alcapone, it's actually Tommy McCook & the Supersonics.

And it isn't the same as I CARE (by Ronald Wilson) UK Punch PH100 (1972), which although is an instrumental, is a later version of the same rhythm. The A side of Punch PH100 is called BUTTERCUP and is by Winston Scotland - another DJ piece to YOU DON'T CARE, although on this later version of the rjhythm.

When I do commercial type nights you can guarantee someone will come up & say "Can you play some reggae mate?!?" So I always start with the same 4, "Double Barrel" then mix that towards the end into "Nuclear Weapon", then I wack on "Barbwire". Instantly as soon as the lyrics hit the girlie dancers ears you get the smiles & giggles from them, & a little blushing, so then I give it to 'em, "Wet Dream" !

I reckon Barb Wire must have done a bit of good round these parts when it came out, I've found 3 copies round the bootsales/market over the last 3 or 4 years.

I absolutely love Barbwire and have since the first time I heard it in 72. You Don't Care is maybe the greatest rocksteady record of all. (Version of Major Lance - You'll Want Me Back). I don't like Meshwire as much as the others, love the Alcapone versions though.
