Guest Posted April 11, 2005 Posted April 11, 2005 hi all, probably another contentios topic from me again, i dont mean it honest. anyway, i went out and purchased a dvd the other day from mvc. it is called 'soulvation- the best of northern soul' the blurb promised all sorts of things so i bought it . it includes quote" classic anthems from the original underground dance music scene performed by the original artists. includes previously unseen footage, exclusive interviews plus an informative 24 page booklet. unquote. so i got it. my only real gripe is , and it is a smallish one really , is that the performances were mimed by the artists now to the older track. this was probably unavoidable as to see them perform their songs theirselves all those years ago was impossible, studio recordings only etc. this was the only way it could be done. that said the enclosed booklet is very good. this is the track listing; do i love you -frank wilson everybody's going to the love-in - bob brady and con chords reconsider - brenda holloway helpless - kim weston i have faith in you - edwin starr your'e gonna make love you -sandi sheldon baby reconsider-leon haywood hope we have-the artistics (previously unreleased) that beatin' rhythym-richard temple i hurt on the other side- sidney barnes our love is in the pocket - jj barnes i'll be there - the gems nevertheless- lee andrews and the hearts it really hurts me girl - the carstairs picture me gone - evie sands with this ring - platters selfish one - jackie ross let me down easy - betty lavette no none to love - pat lewis time will pass you by - tobi legend no comments from me on the tracks as i dont wanna upset anyone else i enjoy watching it tho as i may never have seen these people perform any other way. regards dave

Mate of mine went and bought this thinking it was one of the NCS Club DVD...wasn't too happy when I pointed out who did it
Guest Stuart T Posted April 11, 2005 Posted April 11, 2005 Yes it is. Mate of mine went and bought this thinking it was one of the NCS Club DVD...wasn't too happy when I pointed out who did it link Isn't this about the third time that they have re-packaged that pointless ego trip to try and make some money? The second one was a single video of the alleged best (or at best least bad) bits, rather dishonestly not mentioning that it was a re-hash of the other stuff on the painful three video box set. Does this have the fascinating footage of a Ford Probe driving around a car park?

TheBigO Posted April 11, 2005 Posted April 11, 2005 The rare Soul DVD's are very good and I have a shed load of stuff on video I've picked up from friends and contacts in the States that i will get around to having put on DVD one day as well. Another thing to look out for in the not distant future is the DVD release of 'The Beat' tv prog from Texas that came out on video some years ago and that also features on the Rare Soul DVD's.
