Guest micksmith Posted March 11, 2004 Posted March 11, 2004 hi janine, you've been a busy little girl today with all your posts.
grant Posted March 12, 2004 Posted March 12, 2004 that herbie hunter 45 - you know i've never heard it yet seen it for sale hundreds of times. how does it compare to 'born to love you'? never been able to find a sound file for it either the royal premiers track janine is pure underplayed class! got mine for $3 on u.s ebay last year. grant
Guest Posted March 12, 2004 Posted March 12, 2004 Paid $14 for the Royal Premiers, trying to take something different with me to Ozzy land. Don't know born to love you of the top of my head, so cant compare, im useless at rememebring tracks and artisits im afraid :-(
Headsy Posted March 12, 2004 Posted March 12, 2004 this is the wonderful thing about soul ( and this forum ) what is well known to some is unknown to others and sharing the music is everything, Herbert Hunter on Poncello is a lovely mid tempo cut and well worth buying blind if you dont know it, I paid Craig Moerer 20 bucks for mine and well worth the money, seen it on a few lists for about 20-30 quid. born to love you IMO is one of the classic up tempo dancers of all time and strange ( no dis ) that Janine hasnt heard it, YES you will know it as you seem to be like me with records and labels and artists...the mind is a bunch of wires and you just need to match the correct ones together and you get the record/artist/label , anyway what was I trying to say, oh yes, purchases this week. Mr Shifty got most of my spend but... four below zero .....ESP...Roulette Barbara Lynn...trying to love 2...Ichiban Syng Mcgowan...thats what I want....Hope Lionel Robinson....Warning..and there you go again I cant remember the bloody label see what I mean. white with red logo and writing ,it will come to me as soon as I finish this post...for sure !!! this is the hard part about starting collecting again ( which I started 18 months ago ) you are buying and buying to get those records and your brain cannot keep up with the info, many a do I am at I hear records that sound familiar and after long and deep thought finally ''click'' that I have it...I am sure its the same for others, too much info to absorb !!!
Headsy Posted March 12, 2004 Posted March 12, 2004 there you go....Lionel Robinson...Warning.. on KNIGHT, it just takes me a little while to get there, know what I mean , must be getting old(er)

There was a vg only copy for £20 earlier this week. Seems to be getting a little harder to find. Why spends 100' sometimes 1000's when you can pick up class chewns like Herbert Hunter or the Royal Premiers which are just as good and begging to be played.
Chalky Posted March 12, 2004 Posted March 12, 2004 Syng Mcgowan...thats what I want....Hope this seems to becoming popular again and I'm amazed at the number of folk who say they don't know it! The last few times I've djed I've started spinning his "Just In The Nick Of Time" very under-rated and a big want of mine last year till Janine bought it me for my birthday :-)

Syng McGowan, what a great dancer, still getting big spins up here in Stockport. out of interest headsy, how much did u pay for your Syng? Seems to be going for a few bob these days when years back again it was record you couldnt get more than a tenner for, grant

"Thats what I Want" have seen several at £120 lately :-0 Like you say another that used to be common that i got for next to nowt.
Headsy Posted March 12, 2004 Posted March 12, 2004 one of the better spins from the casino and always a fave of mine, unfortunately Mr pork pie got me to part with 50 for it, again as people say do you wait and see it for 30 or 40 or do you JUST BUY IT !!!! I did anyway and it is stone cold mint so I am happy, maybe I would see it for less but why take the chance to save a tenner and even then it might not be mint . cheap good records.........plenty available for 10 or 20 quid...how soulful is the continental four ??, only paid £6 for mine but DJs turn their nose up playing it cos of price, th ego thing ''look at my records''--big rock on..know what I mean. Moerers got a HH for $25 on site now if you want to get it ? BTW just in the nick is classy too, so many to play out, time for a change ? also your mate Mr Dyson knows the type of sounds we like up the proper north ( newcastle/aycliffe) soul all the way kidda.

Yep gotta agree with you Mr. D. does play some proper stuff. Everytime I'm round his house he makes me green with envy at some of the stuff he keeps turning up. His set in the Queen Vic at Prestatyn on the Sunday was one of the best I've heard in a long time.
Headsy Posted March 12, 2004 Posted March 12, 2004 chalkys post beat me to the post while I was on the phone and didnt see it, strewf £ 120.........anybody want to buy mine for 100 and will get another one for 50.........which IMO is 20 quid too much but as said many times before ,todays prices. it works both ways mind you see 50 quid records going for 100+ and 100 quid records going for 50, unfortunately the majority are overpriced, part of the fun is looking but how often when looking do you buy it there and then cos you need the fix !!!
Headsy Posted March 12, 2004 Posted March 12, 2004 Andys spot at the Cumby, Newton Aycliffe in january was like I was 16 again, blew my mind away with danceable quality 60s soul ( proper northern ). it really was the dogs b******* BTW....what chance a copy of the Turbines on Cenco, anybody seen one for sale ?
grant Posted March 12, 2004 Posted March 12, 2004 while we are on the subject of forgotten oldies , i'm sure headsy and chalky will remember a tune i am trying to get going at the mo - Ronnie Davie 'What Does It Matter To Me Now' on Talmu. What a tune! I think we need to post up a new forum for 'do you remember' for forgotten underplayed oldies!! Grant
Headsy Posted March 12, 2004 Posted March 12, 2004 right on Al........no dont plug that one....... I mean Grant, my big big moan is the underplayed class oldies that to be honest if its never been booted people dont know it or they were not around the first time in the 70s early 80s to hear it and obscure stuff that people dont give a chance to accept it, start a list and get the DJs to take notice, big or small DJ it doesnt matter and play out the 1,000s of class stuff that people never hear
Chalky Posted March 12, 2004 Posted March 12, 2004 BTW....what chance a copy of the Turbines on Cenco, anybody seen one for sale ? I'm sure Gene Robertson was selling one of these, may still have it.
Gene-r Posted March 12, 2004 Posted March 12, 2004 I'm sure Gene Robertson was selling one of these, may still have it. I had my one until a few weeks ago Chalky - it's now in the hands of Nick Brown, for which he traded me £800 worth of rarities!! Gene

Guest Posted March 12, 2004 Posted March 12, 2004 Joe Taylor & the Dominoes is a Hell of track, I got one about a year ago, it's a totaly forgotten sound, thinx it used to get played at stafford......... If stuff like that was played more often on the scene,it would be great. It's high time we all started hassling promoters and D.J's to play quality Northern soul, and stop thinking about big fat profits playing crap like the Futures, and other disco records that seem to be in vogue. I actually missed out on the stafford era, but listening to tapes from the soulies who used to go me thinx it was without doubt, the best time musicaly on the Northern scene. Let's have more Stafford revivals......yeah.
