Guest Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 Heard her new?? track on the radio yesterday and Its defo on the soul side of music if not truly Northern..Its got the flavour. Yes its called "Stop" .....she's a big fan of Northern, she's recently subscribed to breadmaker's (most excellent) you tube site!
Dave Rimmer Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 Paul O'Grady even sang the chorus from 'Like A Nightmare', and he knew who it was by. Yes, I'm seeking forgiveness for watching as well.
Guest Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 Just got home from work and the wife had the Paul O'Grady show on, Charlene Spitteri was doing some soul sounding track, which I think is her new single When Paul starts going on about Northern Soul and how he used to go to "The Wigan Casino" and the 3 before 8 Charlene started to talk about going to the 100 Club and singing with William Bell arranged by Adie Croasdale, I had heard before that she was a soulie Bruce Forsythe was also on and the suggestion from Paul was that they should get some people on to Strictly Come Dancing to do a demonstration of Northern Soul dancing!!!! What next, how to make a soulie using loo rolls and sticky back plastic on Blue Peter
Guest rachel Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 Bit of a cringeworthy comment about wanting to see Northern dancing "done properly" on Strictly Come Dancing, suggests she's missing the point a bit. I only caught the end when I switched on to watch The Simpsons
Stevie Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 Bruce Forsythe was also on and the suggestion from Paul was that they should get some people on to Strictly Come Dancing to do a demonstration of Northern Soul dancing!!!! Wow wouldn't that be something - especially if they could borrow a section of 'original Wigan Casino dancefloor' from Stef Malanjy and the Roadshow to do it on
Margie Rimmer Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 Is the show repeated later? chris its repeated on sky now channel 4 +1

Guest nubes Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 Bit of a cringeworthy comment about wanting to see Northern dancing "done properly" on Strictly Come Dancing, suggests she's missing the point a bit. I only caught the end when I switched on to watch The Simpsons When that happens ...then we are truly doomed ...seen the hustle....salsa .....jazz dancing watered down to suit the masses...who havnt got the imagination or inclination to personalise their dancesteps....Dance is a total expression of one's soul...and how people interpretate it...is entirely down to them...Delxxxx
Suzannek Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 Absolutely Rachel we all do our own thing when it comes to dancing, its all about expression, spontaneity and feeling about the music I shuffle a bit/dance myself , but I also love to watch other people dance too. Suz x
Reg Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 What next, Paul O'grady playing name that northern stomper on the organ... with Dale Winton dancing along with his friend Barbara Windsor Yes Northern Soul is WELL cool

Guest rachel Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 did texas do a record called reconsider that contained some of the lyrics to the brenda holloway tune, or am i dreaming Yes they did use the lyrics, song was called 'Summer Son'.
Guest topcatnumpty1 Posted October 1, 2008 Posted October 1, 2008 Yes they did use the lyrics, song was called 'Summer Son'. Charlen admitted years ago when in The band Texas that she.d always liked soul and particularly motown (the influence you can hear on"Blackeyed Boy" and "Halo").Her first solo single "All the tears i,ve cried " was also ace,i play her C.D. regularly in the car and friends often comment"it,t not bad this old soul stuff of yours" LOL!!!!! BETTER than Duffy any way or Amy(dead by xmas) Beerhouse. Best Tony Coleby
AlanB Posted October 1, 2008 Posted October 1, 2008 Iam sure Homer Simpson is a northern fan,and attends quite a few nighters or its his double ? Kev I think you might be right about Homer. In one episode he was busking as a one-man band and he was doing Archie Bell's Tighten Up. In fact he would blend in quite well, apart from being yellow. Alan

Guest WPaulVanDyk Posted October 11, 2008 Posted October 11, 2008 i wasn't too botherd cause i liked seeing her and Paul O'Grady talk about it. it just gives the general public to wonder what they are going on about. Why should it be a crime to talk about Northern soul on a tv show like Paul O'Grady or even to do a song that is like Northern. after all if they are influenced by it let them.
KevH Posted October 11, 2008 Posted October 11, 2008 Am just watching Paul O'Grady (forgive me) and Charlene Spiterri (ex Texas) is giving Northern Soul, the 100 club and Ady Croasdell a massive BIG UP ....(not to mention O'Grady) .....even Brucie (another guest on the show) is getting in on the act....what next "Strictly come Northern" on the Beeb? Soul-slider Posted October 11, 2008 Posted October 11, 2008 ,big up to CS,not that nob P.O'G. I heard Paul O'Grady say he was a Suedehead during the early 70's on his show once and that he's into Northern & Reggae. That makes him ok in my book!
Guest Posted October 16, 2008 Posted October 16, 2008 Just come in on this one...... Saw the show last week and thought Charlene was excellent. Good number she did too. Talked to her on Facebook and duly proposed to her. She said she'd think about it.
