I'm no expert, but i believe it's just down to reducing any vibration/sound other than the vinyl source.......

Tip : always quote from a King James Bible before playing any 7' single on this incredible machine.

Call me old fashioned, Brett, but that looks like a machine of torture!!

I thought the best one was 'laser' type one that causes no wear or deterioration to the vinyl.

But I may try 2 of these babies at Soulsville before going on to the laser ones

The Transcriptors hydraulic reference turntable, as seen in A Clockwork Orange. I saw one on EBay once but it went for really daft money. If I ever win the lottery....

Clearly just a marketing trick. Who'd want to have two speakers cluttering up their living room? You can pretend that you have got stereo without the expense if you really want it by sticking a finger in one ear. I reckon.
