Sharon Cooper
Maybe they've done all the close up dancing scenes already and just need the other extras for crowd scenes? Richard's cousin went to Stoke, she's a trained dancer and I would have thought they would have tried a bit harder with her as ,although she didn't really know how to dance in the proper "Northern" style, she quite clearly could have picked it up as she is trained in ballet and jazz dance. When they called her to ask her to go they asked her about her dancing experience but she was largely ignored when she got there. And she's a skinny 17 year old who would have looked the part Yes we expected a lot of waiting around so wasn't surprised about that. When I said that some of the dance scenes made me cringe I wasn't refering to those from the agencies etc who couldn't dance the 'Northern Style' but a group of dancers who were part of a group known as *** Dancers who were called upon to do the close up scenes of northern dancing, these, it seems, were meant to be those who could do the dancing, Obiviously I'm only commenting on a few minutes of the film which may have taken forever to film but what bothered me was that despite the fact that my lad and one or two others had been asked about there dancing capabilities they were, has you said in the main ignored. Paul, can I just say that you come across really badly on this forum. I think that you write a lot of these thing's to provoke people possibly for your own amusement but if there is one person I know that's not up his own arse it's Paul Walker. We all went down and did the film because it was a chance to be involved in something that doesn't happen to us lot every day. Whether we got paid or not didn't really matter to us. We just wanted to be involved in some capacity. Yes the production team were clueless. Yes we waited around for what was literally day's on end and that was enough for me to eventually pack it in and come home. But I don't regret doing it and we all had a really good laugh. Whether or not the style of dancing will be exactly like it was in 1974 doesn't really matter to 90% of the people that will watch it and it unimportant to the film, in my opinion. I think that people on this site are full of self importance and up their own arses if they believe thaf people in the outside world give a stuff about what they think. Because we certainly don't. If the film is crap or if it doesn't even make it to the big screen then it will be a shame. But let's be honest, the flim never stood a chance with the keyboard mafia on here. Anyway, you've done it Mr Sadot. You've made me bite so that's possibly 1-0 to you. Link to comment Social source share

Simsy
All this talk of this site and the keyboard mafia and all that is not doing justice to the members of this site, who they are and the knowledge and (valid) opinions they have. If you took the northern scene as it is now and took the active Soul Source members out of it, it wouldn't be the same scene. Therefore we are (like it or not) part of it. We were here before the film. We have the right to comment and pass our views on it. I for one would have been surprised and disappointed if questions were not asked as to authenticity, style & content. Not sure if the question has been answered yet regarding how widely available this film will be in regional cinemas. Hopefully we'll all get to see it. Hopefully it may inspire some new blood. Ian what about the new blood that came along 10 years ago, went on to start their own nights, got asked to be in music video's and film's and then came under a barrage of abuse for everything they've acheived in that short time. According to people on this site (and I'm not talking about everyone on here I'm talking about a minority that just so happen to be posting regulary therefore contribute greatly to the impression people get of the site as a whole) the night's we do are fad's, the video's are crap and the film's are shite. How do you expect us to respect these people? I know a lot of people that don't post on here anymore because it's so two faced and the amount of negativity it unbelievable. Young people are not respected on the soul scene as a whole. They will never penetrate the scene because the scene won't allow them to. That's why we're off doing our own thing now and the soul scene becomes irelivent to us because its stuck in the past and doesn't represent what we feel about soul music. The constant slagging hurts for a while. Then you learn to see it for what it really is. Jealousy. Edited October 2, 2008 by PaulB Link to comment Social source share

I was led to believe, through one of the production team (don't recalll the name) that the film was due to be shown initially at Cannes next year then for general release. On the point made by someone earlier about who will see the film then I suggest that in the main the viewing will be done by the soul fans around the world and not by Joe public who (like some on the set) have no idea what Wigan Casino was or what N/soul is all about . On having a jibe at young people well all I can say is my lad is a N/S fan and takes great care to imitate some of the best dancers you can see on the few films, dvds etc available about the early days. its not a jibe at the young but a jibe, if you want to call it that, at the lack of education re the scene toward the youngsters there. They were dancing as they thought best, it isn't there fault that they were not given proper instruction. Hey, look, thank god! its him again!! Dave Rimmer, the champion of free speech and open-mindedness! Unless of course its ME asking a question. Well Dave, lets face it you would know ALL about unattractive I guess......If you had a personality I would comment further, but no visible signs im afraid. So, according to you we can only make positive comments about a production that has , quite honestly, treated a lot of people (i know cos some of my friends went) very disrespectfully. Like many jealous types on here, you seem to ALWAYS come on to have a dig at me, no matter if the point is valid or not. The film is in trouble!? Or you may choose to believe the Oh so honest production crew stance, with your great connections to the film business, I guess i should bow down. Really mate, get an alternative life that takes in 'reality' not the rose tinted view of ignorance.....Or at least brush up on your facts. If questioning is an unattractive personality trait, you must be absolutely GORGEOUS, because you dont seem to possess the energy or faculty to do so. You only question MY questioning....Asking questions is how we develop in life Dave...Ooops!...sorry, I guess enough said. My god, what a bunch of hard done by 'cry babies'. The fact that you dont give a 'f***' about how you present yourself in an, advertised, 'HISTORICAL' representation of a specific period says it ALL. If you went to see a world war 2 film and a f--king muskateer rode through the battle scene, I guess you wouldn't blink an eyelid...you surrealist you! So, you believe that the dancing in a film about WIGAN CASINO is uninmportant....as I said, nuff said mate. You seem to have a paranoia or persecution complex about being young? At no point have i mentioned age? You can, like yourself, be ignorant at any age. I dont give a f--k about your age, you obviously use it as an excuse for everything. Dave Rimmer
Well if you are claiming to be highly developed thank God I'm still dragging my knuckles Link to comment Social source share
Big Mick
Thing is though... would you get a plumber making a film about cooking in a top notch resturaunt or a political activist / suicide bomber maiking a film on the Nobel Peace Prize...? So why are some usless tossers who think 'Duffy' is the epitome of northern soul doing a film about something as sensative as Wigan Casino.... Did their mam sing 'love bandit' or some other light ditty to them as she rocked them to sleep before dropping them on their heads.... Hang on though... just had a thought thingie... wouldn't all this debate and bitching just create more interest for the film.. and wouldn't it make more money for the backers.... jeeze me finks we shud just ignore the whole fing and pretend it doesn't exist...... Paul-s
Well if you are claiming to be highly developed thank God I'm still dragging my knuckles Ive seen the marks you left on the dusty floors of soul venues. ..... But, as usual, you come on, make a general uninformed comment /dig and then when confronted with your inherent ignorance, you avoid ALL the points made.
