sister dawn Posted September 28, 2008 Posted September 28, 2008 Just received this email today and am saddened to hear that one of the best nights in Lincolnshire is coming to an end. I would just like to thank Steve and the crew for putting this nite on, been to a fair few in the past and always had a great time. Gonna make sure that whatever plans I have on this nite are cancelled so I can attend. This is yet another loss on the scene of a quality great nite with a brill music policy, I sometimes wonder where its all going to end? ''Hi All I would like to let you know that Out On The Floor Again Grantham friday 21st November 2008 with SOUL SAM, ROB SMITH & JOHN MANSHIP will be the last one. We have decided to call it a day after 8 years, We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has supporrted us over the years, and all the great DJ`s that have graced the decks. Lets hope for a good send off, not for us the promoters, but for the loyal regular supporters, the club staff & the DJ`s to have a night to remember. Thanks Steve & Pauline Gutteridge''.

Thanks for those supportive words Sis. Just for the record, the decision to call it a day was made some time ago, just lost the desire to carry on promoting an event. Just in case anybody out there tries to claim some sort of bizzare moral victory (they know who they are) We have come to the conclusion whatever you play people are just not happy, You play oldies - they want 70`s / crossover, you play 70`s / crossover / rarer stuff - they want oldies. You play RnB - they want modern and so on. Our resident John Manship is quite clearly billed as rare/underplayed/unheard tunes, but they still ask for Queen of Fools & The Snake! / play some decent music. We shall still be around on the scene and maybe will enjoy our nights out at other venues a little more then. I will of course be honouring my other modest DJ`ing committments. Steve https://www.granthamsoul.com/ That is really really sad - I mean you get a guy with the quality of records that John Manship has in his box and people ask him for The Snake, and QOF
Guest Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 That is really really sad - I mean you get a guy with the quality of records that John Manship has in his box and people ask him for The Snake, and QOF I have stated this before , but it strongly echoes the above post ....... Whilst DJing at a night last year , one of my selected 45s was playing to a receptive dancefloor , when a pissed individual came up and shouted at me " What sort of f*****g s**t is this ? I don't pay good money to hear crap - play some northern " .......... The record that was playing was " It'll Never Be Over for Me " ......... Malc Burton

Steve https://www.granthamsoul.com/ Like you say Steve, its impossible to please everyone as the scene is so fractured musically. Personally I like "across the board" and hearing the best of all. A thankless task as there are always knockers whatever one does but publicly I for one would like to thank you (and Pauline) for all you've done over the years. Grantham (and Stamford) soul owes you a lot, it just doesn't realise it. Will see ya on the 21st. Dave

Malc Burton The thing is that said pissed individual probably wouldn't know a good Northern record if he had it stuck between the cheeks of his arse. I remember back in about '72 a similar pisshead shouting at DJ "Play some f---ing Motown" while Isley Brothers "Tell Me it's Just a Rumour Baby" was playing.

Steve https://www.granthamsoul.com/ Sad state of affairs Steve. As someone who's experienced this as a DJ and will soon probably go through the same at some point as a promotor i can only wish that these sort of idiots would stay away from events clearly not intended for them. Why don't they the read flyers eh? I can't claim i ever went to Out On The Floor but i'm sad to see another newies/underplayed venue disappear under the tide of the oldies/nostalgia brigade Good look with everything you do in future.
Ian Seaman Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 So sad to see this great night end. Steve & Pauline ably assisted by Paul & Sue have put a lot of effort into this night getting some great DJ's on the decks inc Mr Manship every month to play some top stuff from his box Has not been helped by the addition of a free pub northern soul night run on the same night just 300yds away Lets all get there to make the last night in Nov a cracker, well with JM and Soul Sam on the decks it will be anyway . I,ll be there, oh and mines a Magners Ian.

Rob Wigley Posted October 14, 2008 Posted October 14, 2008 was very sorry to hear this although i had a long chat with Steve a few months ago about the night and the problems he was facing in a small town like Grantham. Unfortunately it will be one of many good nights to close during the next 18 months as crowds dwindle and the scene dives back underground. Congratulations for the work you did, at least you tried mate and your heart and soul were in it ! Rob & Karen
Guest gordon russell Posted October 14, 2008 Posted October 14, 2008 never been to this venue ...but do feel for ya.Some idiots don't deserve good music and in most cases don't know any thats why they ask for some norven.Take heart though there are some absolute brilliant venues that play soul to make your eyes water and the people there will walk over hot coals, fight an army of orks to get to em.Positive side of this you can now get to great places and hear the music you wanna hear.....and have fun atb T.
