Craig Moorer's prices have steadily been increasing also which is annoying. It used to be high only on known big ticket items but you could get oddities relatively cheap. Over the last two years even those have gone away. The last thing I regret not buying from him was the magicians "love lets try it again" for $150, I was like "I need that but I'll get it cheaper if it ever comes up on ebay", the next week it finally hits ebay and goes for $500.

yes,but what ever comes down to a reasonable price Bob?.Also got to weigh up $ v's £.,,and of course gradings thumbsup.gif

Anyway, hope to see you out and about somewhere again soon and will say hello properly! :D

If I was starting to collect soul music on classic labels CM would be my first port of call: tons of brilliant Atlantic, Chess, Stax, Motown etc. in unplayed condition. The grading and customer service are fantastic for such a big enterprise and the packaging is second to none.

unless you were very wealthy, it would be too expensive to buy like random atlantic from him on the 'classic' labels, you would probably have to hit someone who had dead stock of titles nobody cared about or hit record shows or buy bulk lots, etc., and then you could use moorer to fill in holes.

That is fair comment as there is nothing super-cheap in his inventory, but I still think he's fairly priced given the level of his enterprise and the size of the company's overhead.

Let's face it, the only bargains left in collecting 'old' music such as soul 45s are from sellers who are unaware of the value of what they're selling. Craig and his staff are seldom unaware of the value of the stock they're sitting on: in such cases his unknowns and obscurities are auctioned on ebay and the market decides the price.

Craig and his staff are seldom unaware of the value of the stock they're sitting on: in such cases his unknowns and obscurities are auctioned on ebay and the market decides the price.

His prices on something like a random atlantic 45 are based on people buying them as collection fillers, etc., as most random atlantic 45s should probably really be $1 but nothing on his site is $1. You can still find some sellers on Gemm as a better source for things like that. It's fair game for him to do that, though, he has enough stock that he can price stuff at a premium and still make money off of people looking for a specific item (rather than just generally buying).

I did actually have a bad experience recently, I saw he had ocie iii on CIM with the flip on his website for like $20. I had never seen it with the flip before and I bought it as a random chicago title. He emails me saying they can't find it. 6 months later it shows up on their auction. That was pretty lame I thought. I didn't know it would go for $500 either, I just bought it (or at least tried to buy it) because I hadn't seen it before. Did they really lose it and then find it later and just decide to auction it?

Also, the person doing their auctions is very unknowledgable and lists total garbage, misinformation, the wrong sides (or has audio clips only of the bad sides, or the audio clip cuts off before the chorus and you can't tell if there's a group), etc. At this point they seem to have built up a following of people specifically looking for the types of things they auction (e.g. "boogie" records, etc.), but I think they alienate a lot of real collectors with their listings, and it's always amusing when there are common records or just terrible records listed that get no bids. They had a bootleg of linda jones 'hypnotized' up recently with a different artist on the flip, description was something like 'rare one for her', I emailed them saying that it was a bootleg and they took it down. How could anyone who knows anything about soul music think that hynotized is the 'rare' record by linda jones?

HOW DOES HIS SALES MAG ARRIVE WITHUOT EVEN A CREASE - LET ALONE RIPP[ED AND TORN...

THE ONLY CONCLUSION THAT I CAN COME TO IS THAT HE HAND DELIVERS EACH MAGAZINE PERSONALLY - WHICH IS PROBABLY THE REASON THAT SOME RECORDS LEAVE HIM LATE; YOU CAN'T EXPECT THE MAN TO BE EVERWHERE!

bargains from moerer? which bargains if you don't mind me asking? 10/15 years ago you could get many bargains from him. but in recent years? i gave up browsing his lists as there weren't any decent priced records any more, he eventually gave up sending any lists to me as well

About 18 months ago, maybe 2 years, a group of guys were talking about a modern tune going mad in price. (Name escapes) Craig had 2 for $35 each. I bought both, and moved one in a JM Auction for £180. The other I sold to a mate for half that. A week AFTER the JM one went I recieved an email. He had found 2 more. Did I want one for $70, he would put the other on his site? I took it, and sold it for £70, and gave my mate a £20 refund. He used it to treat us to a ruby.

So lots of good vibes eminating all from the CM experience.

In November a couple of years ago I bought about 6 records totalling about $200 from Moerer without insurance. Unfotunately, they never turned up, however, he kindly refunded half of the total in the new year when it was clear they weren't gonna appear. Can't fault really as he wasn't liable and I hadn't been a prolific buyer from him prior to the incident.

Is this seller ok? Been checking his sales list and everything seems to be mint minus?

I'm just a little suspicious as ive never dealt with them before haha

I used to buy from him, always top notch, not all is mint minus.

One thing that always leaves me thinking Wow! is just how fast you get your feedback from Craig after you have left yours, I just typed 2 in went back for 1 more then checked to see how I was doing and it was there I bet 2 mins later top's. :D

Craig Moorer must be one of the best known dealers of soul 45's in the world currently, and has been for the past 30 odd years, I've never had a problem in all the years I've been dealing with him.
