Guest Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 Dave Evison ..Hmm maybe he comes under the catagory of 'been there, done that' or "already made it".. Jayne.x
Guest Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 Hi Russ,i agree with you here Dave Abbott + Pete Hulatt + Dolly(100 club). All three with fantastic tunes and know how to play them out.. Toby.. Now you're steping into the terrirtory of some of the countries best rather than those breaking through... Agree with you though and all got rave reviews when they DJ'd at Bury ( to the point that Pete and Dolly are back for our final night next month!)
Pete S Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 ..Hmm maybe he comes under the catagory of 'been there, done that' or "already made it".. Jayne.x I was being facetious
Guest Simon Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 I was being facetious More than a little facetious i would say Peter, Dave Evison is clearly from the Northern Soul jurassic period! Simon

(that should secure me a beer) you'll have to do a bit more than that to get a beer out of Pete Eccles!. Agreed, great DJ, I nearly said Pete yesterday but he comes in the 'made it' catagory rather than breaking through.. he's been DJ'ing for ages...hundred's of years in fact!. Although we are talking about breaking on to niter scene I suppose and I tend to hear him at soul nights.. DJ'd at Bury several times cos 'he's dead good (despite being a wanderers fan).. Jayne.x. Guest Richard Bergman Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 (edited) Sheffield's Brett Franklin is a fine dj who delights with sumptuous 70's and crossover sounds. Edited September 26, 2008 by Richard Bergman

Simon Do alot of northern djs swap dentures these days ? Is this the latest craze sweeping the fucntion suites of the uk ? Radical !!!
Garethx Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 (edited) Ady Lupton and garethX are very veratile chaps and I don't hear them nearly enough...(or is that because i rarely leave the house )... Thanks for the kind words, Reg, but I think my sometimes abrasive personality had led to me falling out with practically everyone who runs a rare soul night in the UK and much of continental Europe. Currently taking bookings for 2009 in the former Soviet Republics and maybe leftist Latin America... Edited September 26, 2008 by garethx

Guest BIG H Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 Alan Patterson, Fraser Dunn and Jock O'Conner do it for me three of the best and most progressive dj's from Scotland, all three should be heard a helluva more they all have collections and a knowlege thats second to none Harry
Garethx Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 Alan Patterson was top notch at Soul Revolution last week and drew high praise from all quarters. Fraser is always a marvel in the deep room at Yarmouth. Remind me who this Jock O'Connor guy is?
Keithw Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 hammy from bedford way cliff steele pete lyster kevin healey blake fred kroll all play good stuff thats not run of the mill left out close mates to avoid them being embaraced
Guest gordon russell Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 Jayne ,point was with Cliff and Fred, they only DJ at burnley and need to be heard by a wider audience. It all depends on the music policy Harry wants at his venue.I DJ'd at Burnley recently, does that mean i've broken through Salmon can't really speak for ..fred or cliff.....but two of the most honest fellas you could meet. They buy records cause they love the music, djing just seems to be secondary to em as it does to a lot of vinylistas.I would add if a wider audience want to hear em, go to the venue they dj at....now that ain't hard is it now ......can't be doing with some of the dj's who seem to be djing from lands end to john agroats as if it's important to be SEEN.....all the best tezza
Guest gordon russell Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 Both Kitch and Andy Dyson are severely under-heard throughout the country as a whole. very true

Brett I think sometimes Brett, young Dj's, great record collection or not, get ignored.... I'll second the Karl Heard vote, what a DJ! Also Pete Robinson of Marrs Bar/Tommy Cooper fame isn't heard enough-he's got some fooking awesome records!
Guest SteveJohnston Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 Not up and coming! But what happend to John Venn ? I remember him from the Whitchurch Civic Center late 70's uesd to think he was a good DJ that needed more play time than he got i think he was a mate of Mick Holdsworth or was it Mick Derry ? two more fine DJ's from back then i'd like to see behind the decks. Steve J
Richard Bayley Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 Harry, I think in your neck of the woods, you're sitting on a goldmine of underrated spinners - I nominate Col Denham and Gaz Simon

Guest Beeks Posted September 29, 2008 Posted September 29, 2008 (edited) I hate the fact that anyone with a handful of records is a DJ on this scene...I like to think along the lines of that old female adage It's not what you've got...it's what you do with it that counts Edited September 29, 2008 by Beeks
