Guest Pointman Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 Betty Wright - Mr. Lucky - SOLID SOUL I need this damn 45 and I can't find much of anything about it. Anyone know how much I should expect to pay in blood money for a copy? thanks.
Pomonkey Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 Yes, killer killer 45 and dog rare, she was only 15 when she cut it but she just destroys, when the Eccentric Soul people did their Florida comps even the label owners couldn't locate a copy, they finally borrowed one from Jeff Lemlich down there if I remember rightly. I see from playlists that Christian on your side of the water has one. I have 2 copies, a stone mint one I had pulled from an auction earlier this year ( ) and just this week won an ebay copy of Craig Moerer's, only listed as G visually but stated plays great and from the sound sample think was worth the risk, got it for a steal for the trades box so fingers crossed. Incidentally, that auction said was her 1st single but is her 2nd. Good luck!

So it was YOU who got that auction pulled earlier this year! I eventually tracked down a copy though, so no harm done... That recent copy you picked up from Moerer sure was cheap! How many known copies? 10 at most I think, probably only 5-6. Killer deep soul flipside as well. I included "Mr. Lucky" in a recent MP3-mix of mine: https://www.soul-source.co.uk/mp3-Mix...008-t81837.html
Pomonkey Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 Duh, why did I call you Christian?? Yes congrats on finding one Seb, agree there's not many floating around anywhere, none of the New York boys of girls here have one, nor do any of my contacts across the States to date, funny that such an established artist could have something this good slip thru the net, even if was before her more known stuff.
Guest TONY ROUNCE Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 (edited) Funny that such an established artist could have something this good slip thru the net, even if was before her more known stuff. Trouble is, this 45s was pressed in minuscule quantities in the first place, as nobody really expected it to sell outside of Miami and its immediate environs. There was no thought of national distribution, and I'd bet that most people who bought or were given copies threw them away well before there was any kind of collector market for 60s soul. Frankly I've given up hope of ever owning a copy of this one, although I do have the Deep City 45 and very good it is too... Edited September 26, 2008 by TONY ROUNCE
Dave Pinch Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 so whats this one worth then. plenty of man o mine`s and the deep city 45 on popsike
Sebastian Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 so whats this one worth then. It's pretty much "pick your price" time. Having said that, the copy which Moerer auctioned just a week ago went VERY cheap (only G+ though), but I put that down to them having put the deep soul side first in the soundclip and "Mr. Lucky" still being an unknown tune to most people.
mshoals Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 so whats this one worth then. plenty of man o mine`s and the deep city 45 on popsike The copy on ebay last week went for around $125, one or two years ago a copy (in better shape) was sold for about the same price on ebay.
Pomonkey Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 Before the Eccentric Soul comp I'd venture close to nobody knew about this 45 so the person who won the earlier one on popsike a year was way ahead of the curve, wish popsike showed winners' names! Haven't heard of anyone else here or on the funk board having one.....
Sebastian Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 Haven't heard of anyone else here or on the funk board having one..... You have 2 copies. I have 1 copy. I guess that Jeff Lemlich still has got 1 copy. Markus Gora ("goodchoice" on here) mentioned in another thread that he regretted selling his copy, I don't know who got that one though. Apart from that, I know of no other copies. Does anyone on here have it in their collection?
Dylan Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 sounds good for a 15 year old. looks like a lovely mint copy to in the scan.
