John Benson Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 If we're picking out tracks which were on albums before the 45 release and removing them from the list, then I'd still have to query the Bob & Earl Band on Jay Boy - I thought it was already on the Jay Boy "Bob & Earl" LP before the 45 was released (Didn't this get discussed on Soul Talk a few years back Ady?) Also... What about the Jimmy Ruffin track "The Entertainer" - taken from his 1975 Polydor LP Surely this can't be allowed either? Don't also forget the Contours "Baby hit and run" - this was definitely played from the Music for Pleasure album, long before the 45 was released. ----------------------------------------- Now, to add to the list - what about Bobby McClure "You bring out the love in me" on Island? That doesn't appear to have been out in any other shape or form prior to this. Also there's GC Cameron "Live for love" on Flamingo More to follow, when I've had a good think about this...
TOAD Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 (edited) BOBBY BYRD - YOU BRING OUT THE LOVE IN ME-CONTEMPO UK ONLY ? Edited September 27, 2008 by TOAD
John Benson Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 No, not Bobby Byrd with that title - the title belongs to the Bobby McClure on Island that I mentioned above! Are you thinking of "Thank you for your love" on Contempo? - That was Bobby Byrd Yep, I reckon it qualifies for the list as well
TOAD Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 "Thank you for your love" on Contempo? - That was Bobby Byrd YES I WAS ITS GREAT AND IN REFOSOUL ANOTHER ALMA FAYE I BELIVED FLAMINGO UK ONLY I THINK
Eddie Hubbard Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 How about this one : Johnny Burke - Love on a lease plan , really Johnny Taylor of course and demo'd on UK Goldmine , which if either or both are legal ? Great gritty Detroit of course .Best,Eddie
Eddie Hubbard Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 Here's one we've missed : JJ Barnes - Sweet Sherry [uK Contempo ] , plus Barbara Jean English - Key in the mailbox [uK Contempo ] think I'm correct in saying Barbara Jean doesn't have a USA release ? Best ,Eddie
John Benson Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 No Eddie, I don't think we can allow either of those as they were both previously out on LPs (Mind you, I hadn't realised that there was no US 45 for "Key in the mailbox" - you may be right on that one)
Eddie Hubbard Posted September 28, 2008 Posted September 28, 2008 No Eddie, I don't think we can allow either of those as they were both previously out on LPs (Mind you, I hadn't realised that there was no US 45 for "Key in the mailbox" - you may be right on that one) True John , though if you were going to play those 2 " out " on singles , the Contempo ' 45 is the only legal way , how underrated was John Abbey's label , superb releases across the board eh ? Best ,Eddie
Guest Brett F Posted September 28, 2008 Posted September 28, 2008 Can't believe know one mentioned the best unreleased track Anita Robbins Grapevine 2000, IMHO. Brett F

Benji Posted September 28, 2008 Posted September 28, 2008 Correct me if i'm wrong, but wasn't this first released on the Kent LP "The Spring Sides", prior to the anniversary 45' ?, perhaps Ady C could confirm, i'm doing this from memory, if yes then it doesn't qualify for this list as it is a LP track first, suppose the same can be said of the Betty Boo on Grapevine LP. What about the Bill Spoon on Hense Forth 12", thought this was earlier material that never got a release because the label owner died ? Then later on in the 80's got a release. Brett F yes Garland Green was on Kent LP first. According to the Soul Police 12" are to be omitted as they are technically no 7" 45s even if they play at 45 or 78 or whatever..
Guest Brett F Posted September 28, 2008 Posted September 28, 2008 yes Garland Green was on Kent LP first. According to the Soul Police 12" are to be omitted as they are technically no 7" 45s even if they play at 45 or 78 or whatever.. Well what a load of crap that is ! It came out first on the LP, I'll be playing that and have an edge of superiority, so the Soul Police can suck that and see Brett
Guest Brett F Posted September 28, 2008 Posted September 28, 2008 Suppose i can't play "Here I Go" on the Sunstar LP because it got a recent release, or my John Valenti LP, Or My Richard Stepp LP...etc Brett F
Guest Brett F Posted September 28, 2008 Posted September 28, 2008 I thought the thread was about PREVIOUSLY UNRELEASED material............If it came out first on LP then its not previously unreleased....is it ? Brett..............off now i need to sort my choice weapons out, i'm fond of the drop forged pipe wrench with the flame hardened teeth.
Harrogatesoul Posted September 28, 2008 Author Posted September 28, 2008 (edited) yes Garland Green was on Kent LP first. According to the Soul Police 12" are to be omitted as they are technically no 7" 45s even if they play at 45 or 78 or whatever.. Benji - Its got f*** all to do with the 'soul police' - The thread was started as a previously unissued material on 45 as I thought it was generally the preferred medium. Quite happy for folk to fight it out re. Garland Green et al - I personally wasn't aware it had come out on an LP but there is an argument that as a piece of unissued material available on 45 for the first time it's inclusion may be warranted. I'm laying no laws down here as such and am happy to be corrected and as it goes material on 12" / LP etc is more than welcome as I've stated in another thread the music is there to be highlighted and can often get lost. You want to kick off a 12"/LP thread Benji? I've already changed the title of the thread to suit one person - you want me to change it again? Brett - Of course how can we forget Anita Robins!! Will update the list later on. Thanks for the input (and everyone else) Rich Edited September 28, 2008 by harrogatesoul
