Guest Posted September 22, 2008 Posted September 22, 2008 (edited) There are Yellow label copies with green writing, and Light green label copies with black writing of this record. Both have been about since the 70's. Anyone know if they are both originals? I notice Mr Manship has both on his site but does not give any info! Edited September 22, 2008 by Guest

I thought the yellow label was the original with the green label coming slightly later (second press around the time of 'Mainstring') which i guess was only a few months after but i could be wrong? Cheers Steve

Cheers Steve This seems about right. I had a yellow one from Soul Bowl in late 1975 (I think), then ordered a second copy for a mate a week or so later, which turned up on the pale green label!

Reforee Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 You might find the yellow copies might be demos/promos etc. All records dont have this wriiten on, but it is quite the norm that demos/promos are often yellow or white as they stand out. I remember mid 80s while on a marketing course and was told, the most favourable colour to market with is yellow, so a simple explaination prehaps?????? Dave H.

Thanks for all the replies, its an intresting point that the yellow label could be the demo. Remember Richard Searling playing it in Wigan Casino allnighters, and it sounded great in the big room!
Guest Dark Horse Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 cant recall ever having to turn mine up dave Nor mine, both are green bought both at the same time in the Mecca in ' 75,never saw the yellow one till later, interesting point about the demo theory.

Dave H. All demos/promos are marked with something to indicate that they are a promotional copy and not for regular retail sale - of this, or any other record. If they are not, they are not true demos. I haven't heard anything so daft in ages... BTW the yellow ones came first, I had the pleasure of spending some time with the late Oscar Perry in 2001, and he confirmed as much to me. The green ones are not reissues, he just ran out of yellow labels and carried on pressing it on the green stock when he started getting calls for copies from "you crazy guys in England"... Nice man, went way before his time.

Bugger Wigan! - If anything was a Blackpool Mecca anthem it was "I Got What You Need", so I'd have been after owning a demo copy of it, had I ever seen one. Since I never have, I don't think actual demo copies exist. PS. The flip side "Come On Home To Me" is a fabulous ballad of course, and along with "Let's Take A Raincheck" is yet another of my faves. Another unique talent, now sadly lost to us. Edited September 25, 2008 by mel brat
