grant Posted March 12, 2004 Posted March 12, 2004 Grant You're lucky the Ad Libs record wasn't called 'Roger my Boy' or you might have been in real trouble!! Brian deary dear brian !!!!!
Louise Posted March 12, 2004 Posted March 12, 2004 having been around so long and seeing quantities of certain titles over the years. Err M.J if you've been around so long how come your only 39 years old ? ;-) XXX
Headsy Posted March 12, 2004 Posted March 12, 2004 like chalky says, common records that go for stupid money, in the words of John Powney who has had a lot through his hands, ''wouldnt sell it for more than £10 cos Ive had loads'' mind you he would say that about Lester Tipton as well if you know John.
Guest micksmith Posted March 12, 2004 Posted March 12, 2004 janine, i did hear that there was a copy of larry atkins at prestyin for £150.00. off a certain welshman/leicesterman. dealers. now that's pushing the boat out too far. oh the label was highland issue. so the price has risen £145.00 since i had access to all those copys. i should have bought the lot. never mind i'm happy.
Guest Posted March 12, 2004 Posted March 12, 2004 Mick - I paid £60 for mine, he had it up for £100, so was quite happy :-) But not as happy as I am right now after securing my Al Williams, collecting it next week :-))))))))))))
Guest DeeJay Posted March 17, 2004 Posted March 17, 2004 HI CHALKY YEAH I THINK YOU MAY BE RIGHT, THE BOTTOM WILL FALL OUT OF THE NS MARKET EVENTUALLY. HOW MANY OFFSPRING NOWADAYS GET INTO THE NORTHERN THRU MUM & DAD? VERY FEW I SUSPECT SO MAYBE THE MARKET TO SELL TO WILL GET SMALLER TOO AND AS MANY OF US DECIDE TO 'CASH-IN' OUR COLLECTIONS WHO WILL BUY ? RESULTING IN SIGNIFICANT DROP IN PRICE FOR MANY HIGH 'VALUE' RECORDS OF TODAY. IT IS DEFINITELY A SELLERS MARKET AT THE MO, BUT HOW LONG IT CAN GO FOR, TIME WILL TELL. P.S. CHALKY - FOUND THAT TAPE, WILL COPY TRACK OVER W/END AND SEND ONTO YOU GRANT i used to think the market would fall but the way i see it Northern Soul is expanding maybe not in the UK but 10 years ago who would have thought there would be such soul events as sweden Germany Australia Spain etc There's still only a limited amount of originals but the actual market is expanding at a terrific rate DJ
Guest Posted March 19, 2004 Posted March 19, 2004 Mick - I paid £60 for mine, he had it up for £100, so was quite happy :-) But not as happy as I am right now after securing my Al Williams, collecting it next week :-)))))))))))) Paid a fiver for mine in about 1993 - was a regular on Bradys £5 each or five for £20 lists.... As was Soulful Twins on Sable - now £60+ Another one you always saw at every venue - Dottie & Millie - used to be a tenner - now £200+? sheer madness... Cheers, Joe.
Guest Posted April 24, 2004 Posted April 24, 2004 Having missed out on Jerry Naylor by a fiver twice in the past couple of months (at £310 and $305) I think you've got to be a bit more realistic. It doesn't matter a jot what any price guide or individual values a record at if it simply can't be found at that price. If anyone would like to really prove them wrong and get me a copy for £150 I'll happily join you in ridiculing the people who outbid me. BB andybb@btopenworld.com
Liamgp Posted April 26, 2004 Posted April 26, 2004 Was browsing through a certain dealer's website and saw that he's asking £300 for A.Alexander's Keep Her Guessing. Surely not!? I got one in '87 and it was £40.

Guest Posted April 28, 2004 Posted April 28, 2004 Too late - sold it for £50 a year later! And I thought I was doing well...
