Dylan Posted September 18, 2008 Posted September 18, 2008 I've now got 3 versions of this deep soul winner and wondered how many more there are ? so far I have Joe Woods (IMO the best version i've heard yet) Valentine Adams Lou Pride I do know of a 4th group version which I have on CD but group name has gone from memory. all above are quite different and all great, the last one is available at craig moerer now for $6 and i'd reccomend it to anybody. dylan
jocko Posted September 18, 2008 Posted September 18, 2008 Do you mean the Womack/Pickett song Dylan, if then hard to beat old Wilson's but you are right there are a number of good versions. I put up a Maxine Brown version of her epic LP which is nice but more in a crossover style so not as deep as the others. I also have it by Falcons on Atlantic 45, it has part 1 and 2 and the part 2 really lets loose, not sure who is on the Falcons line up by then. Sure I have a few other LP versions, will check tonight, unfortunately cant do sound clips at present. I did not know Lou Pride did version, would like to hear that, when is it from?
Dylan Posted September 18, 2008 Author Posted September 18, 2008 lou pride i'd guess early 80s ? still another great version. A bit more controlled in the vocal I guess. thats the one moerer has for $6. thanks for info on others. I think i've missed some very obvious examples in my searching. Will check them out
Guest Kerrso Posted September 18, 2008 Posted September 18, 2008 Etta James does a storming version. Cheers Kerrso
