All I can remember was it had an archway over the door, old town hall looking place I met my wife there 24 years ago and neither off us cfan remember the bloody name of the place Also remember it was a friday night as we went to the Warrina in Pboro the night after Anyone able to help ????????? leev Posted September 12, 2008 Posted September 12, 2008 i left leicestershire in 1980, before the sports centre nighter started. i did go to a nighter in hinckley at what used to be it's old tiffany's in 1980, i think it had changed it's name to bubbles by then, it was owned by the mecca group. hinckley had a very strong northern soul contingent stretching way back.

Russ Ive got an old photo somewhere of a load of us from Newcastle/Gateshead area on a coach and on the back Ive written Hinkley, Leicester 1983 and we are soooo young. Were the Supremes on there at all ? Or was that somewhere else ? Maybe it was the Vandellas ?? My memory isnt what it used to be ................. Karen xx

Russ Blimey Russ, if that's the one out towards Stoke Golding as you head out of Hinckley, I used to play 5-a-side there, and at that time it was a right shit hole............would've been a great niter venue then!!! Cheers, Mark R There was deffo a nighter there it was on a Friday night, as I hich hiked back to Portsmouth on the Saturday & got a lift off some people going to 'Live Aid'..........!!!! thats why I remember it so well. Andyontherock Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 I rember seeing Eddie Holman in Hinckley, and I have often tryed to work out what venue it was at. When I used to live near there a few years back, we used to go clubing with the guys I worked with and I can think of two places that it may be. One is now a kids play zone and club, and the other is up a side street of the main road through town, The Regent club also rings a bell. I do have some pics from back then that I am unsure if the venue, will post them up when I find them.

Mark R Posted September 22, 2008 Posted September 22, 2008 Yes, Bubbles was the nightclub in The Horsefair in Hinckley, a small street/alley way off the main street (Castle Street??). I think it's still a nightclub to this day. I used to go to a mid-week thing at the Working Mens Club (?)..........the room was definitely called The Alkin Suite (might have the spelling wrong??). I reckon these were Monday nights, but it's a looooonng time ago. As I recall, some big name DJ's used to do that, not just locals. Cheers, Mark R

Cheers, Mark R If I remember rightly the reason had something to do with a temporary stage at the original venue. The act didnt think it was particularly safe so they refused to go on. If that was the case, then it was a great piece of work getting the alternative venue.
