Guest Posted September 11, 2008 Posted September 11, 2008 Cheers John, can´t believe I forgot to check your site! I couldn´t find it listed in your guide - any idea on value? Cool tune! If I play it £500 If Butch plays it £2000
Guest Arcticsoulboy Posted September 11, 2008 Posted September 11, 2008 If I play it £500 If Butch plays it £2000 And if I play it £5. Still, that gives it a median value of £835... Cheers John!
Russ Vickers Posted September 11, 2008 Posted September 11, 2008 And if I play it, it'll be one of those crap but rare things that clears every dance floor & is deffo sub standard compared with discoveries from the 'Golden Era'.............. !!!!!. Russ

Corbett80 Posted September 11, 2008 Posted September 11, 2008 (edited) production messy as anything but i bet it sounds good ramped up full at an allnighter Edited September 11, 2008 by mulf
Garethx Posted September 11, 2008 Posted September 11, 2008 Frank Giacobbe has championed this 45 for a long time so it's good to see others adding it to their sets. It's pretty tough to find and sounds great out. I had one which went to a very good home about three years ago.
Manfromsoul45s Posted September 13, 2008 Posted September 13, 2008 I want one please. Russ Been a few on the bay over the years i think..
boba Posted September 13, 2008 Posted September 13, 2008 Been a few on the bay over the years i think.. I was the second bidder on a "VG" one 2 days ago for $180
Guest Arcticsoulboy Posted September 13, 2008 Posted September 13, 2008 I was the second bidder on a "VG" one 2 days ago for $180 Guess who beat you...

Russ It's just sub standard . . . period!!! Why is it these crappy recordings (IMO) always seem to be the ones that others rave about and fetch hundreds / thousands of pounds? Once again, it's because it's rare . . . period!!! I'm sounding like a broken record now but I can't help it, I have to express myself.
boba Posted September 14, 2008 Posted September 14, 2008 Guess who beat you... yeah, good luck with that seller les harris, one of the worst on ebay, his vg is like fair and he ships 45 INSIDE LPS, like he tapes the 45 to the LP, puts it inside the sleeve, writes an address on it, and mails it with no additional padding.

Oh dear... Doesn´t matter as hurricane Ike probably will have flooded the San Antonio post office by now. Still like the record though!
Guest Arcticsoulboy Posted September 14, 2008 Posted September 14, 2008 Just read through his feedback, and even though 98,9% is positive, it´s still a lot of feedback mentioning overgrading. I´ll keep you posted. If it arrives that is...

Your entitled to your opinion of course, but thats exactly all it is, your opinion, I wouldnt give a flying fig if it was 5p I like it & that is all that matters, just cos you think its a crappy recording, doesnt mean it actually is a crappy rcording. Russ

Russ Just listened again, yes its messy, but a real Allnighter record IMO & probably sounds far better, bangin' out over a massive system. Russ

Still like the record though! hopefully he will be more careful with more expensive titles (and shipping overseas), that was just my experience with his cheaper titles. He has another user id with much lower feedback. I hope it works out for you, I like the sweet side (who can I turn to) but even that is sort of 'messy' sounding, still a nice record though.

Russ That's probably true Russ but I tend to think that a record that sounds great at home will also sound great played out and loud. But a record that sounds great played out and loud will not necessarily always sound great at home. And at the end of the day, why are you buying records? To be played out or at home? For other people, or for yourself? Another reason why it sounds messy in the cold light of day and better out at an Allnighters might be because of certain other 'outside influences'? Having said all that, like you said, we're all entitled to our own opinions and I admire you for standing up for yours. Your Soul mate Denbo.

I collect all kinds of soul records from all genres & decades, when it comes to NS some are deffo more for the dancefloor & as I DJ occasionally I am not just buying records to listen to at home, I would never ever buy a record I personally didnt like to DJ with or otherwise, but some dance records sound better at a venue, especially when you've got ya gear ears on.............crazy but true . It arrived today, without water damage from Ike. First time I´ve received a 45 protected by two other 45´s and sent in an EP box (The Minneapolis Symphony Orchestra´s rendition of Offenbach´s Helen of Troy on RCA Victor on red vinyl). The Primes 5 was OK, and correctly graded, even though the symphony orchestra 45´s were in better nick. All in all OK though.

Corbett80 Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 I got a copy of this off Les Harris too for £40 the other day graded at VG- but described as 'plays fine all the way through'. Arrived exactly as above but skips. Rather unfriendly seller too. Back it goes....
